Today, January 27th, is Holocaust Remembrance Day. Let's remember the 6 million men, women and children killed simply because they were Jewish. They will remain forever in our thoughts and prayers. Never again! https://www.ushmm.org/information/exhibitions/online-exhibitions/special-focus/international-holocaust-remembrance-day
I suppose it’s an appropriate thread now that Donald Trump (The New Hitler) is in office and is about to launch a major Holocaust of his own on our Mexican and Hispanic brothers There were 11 million Jews in Europe when Hitler launched his campaign and he came up 5 million short of his goal, will the same be said for Trump, only time will tell Hotwater
Comparing Trump to Hitler is belittling the events Hitler actually caused, just to make a "cute" political jab. That's pretty disgusting. Have you no shame?
I recently saw this movie "Keeping the Faith" It places in contrast a Jewish rabbi (Ben Stiller) and a Catholic priest (Edward Norton). It's interesting to see how they both speak the same language to two not-so-different congregations. I turned it off halfway through but that was mostly because it was late enough to go to sleep. It's interesting to see faith portrayed in two different religions. Sometimes I feel like there are those who look at the holocaust with too much of an open mind. They act like it might have been good or might have been bad, they don't know and aren't saying which out loud. I think it's important to acknowledge how awful the holocaust must have been, and remember that millions lost their lives because of hate and injustice. The world should be careful to never allow such a thing to happen ever again. I'm not Jewish but I'll say Shalom anyway.
"They came for the Communists, and I didn’t object – For I wasn’t a Communist; They came for the Socialists, and I didn’t object – For I wasn’t a Socialist; They came for the labour leaders, and I didn’t object – For I wasn’t a labour leader; They came for the Jews, and I didn’t object – For I wasn’t a Jew; Then they came for me – And there was no one left to object". = Martin Niemoller, German Protestant Pastor, 1892-1984 Insert, - Black, Gay, Gypsy/Romany/Traveller, Indiduous people etc. - it seems (sadly) a lesson still not learned
Don't worry, remember that he represents BLM supporters mentality which is a racist group. Hotwater actually seemed to wish that hitler had killed them all. Lets try not to focus on him. He is just seeking attention. Remember what this is about. When I was in France I went to the beaches and small towns with plaques listing those that lived there who were sent to camps. Schools that were Jewish schools where every child in that school was sent to camps under the Vichy government. Apologies to the atrocities that were permitted, that happened throughout Europe. In Paris, the American flags flying celebrating the USA liberation of Paris. Canadian, British, Australian American flags flying through towns in France,,,,Canadian flags flying in towns throughout the Netherlands. Not forgetting, remembering and moving forward.
Yeah that’s me alright the preverbal attention seeker. That’s why I’ve been here for the last 13 years seeking attention I’m not getting at home from my family or friends. Not someone like yourself who only recently began trolling this website with an agenda…lol… Hotwater
Please try to stay on topic hotwater. This thread is not about you and your assumptions. Are you trying to suggest that your views mean more than mine because you have been here 13 years? Does this mean you are not a troll? Don't bother answering, I know the answer and it will just be off topic. This is about the holocaust ok? The many people who died. Perhaps show some compassion and respect to this?
Wow and you actually reference a fabricated text? Do you even know who wrote it? Made it up? And when? You are well representing what is wrong with the world, people and why days like this are important to remember and look to the future and not relive the past, as you are want to do.
Thank you! I didn't intend for Trump, BLM or any conspiracy theories to come up when I posted this...just to honor and remember the victims of a terrible period in our history.
This topic is NOT about Trump This topic is to pay respectful remembrance to the many who died in terrible circumstances whilst the World ignored the stories that leaked out and denied the possibility of such atrocities . It is not about blame, it is about an observation of a fact. Russian, British and American encounters of discovery debunk the 'didn't happen' theory - it did the theme is, and should always be 'lest we forget' The shame is that we:- (a) We fail to learn the from the lessons of the past (albeit that attempted genocide can be aimed at within the last 150 years in the home of the 'brave') (b) We chose not to recognise the significance of (lack of) 'humanity' (c) We treat is with disregard because of those involved - People, are People (see my previous post) (d) We use it to turn the subject to another sphere (even though comparisons could be made - at the moment - it is hypothetical) (e) Some chose to belittle it through (educational) ignorance = methinks
It was just as much about the surrounding countries treatment of the jews as it was the Germans/Hitler
As long as there is any identification with gender, nationality, creed, religion, ideology, sect, gangs, language and so on, there will be violence . The focus also should be on deconstructing this identification process in order to prevent conflict and foster harmony, and warning the world of the dangers of blind identification from time to time. Identification is a state of a lower state of consciousness, and hence the perception of duality and consequent conflict. Love is a higher state of consciousness and hence the perception of unity and consequent harmony.
I have been to the beaches of Normandy, seen in person the number of dead .. the countless monuments with names listed of those Jewish people who were sent to camps. It is really important to remember this. What happened to your neighbour. In North America many people just read about it. I have talked with vets. Talked with people who remember and were there. People who were in camps during Ww2. One man I talked with had recently received 6000 dollars from the German government for his 2 years in a work camp in the southern tip of the Netherlands 60 years later he received it. Lived in Toronto. When I asked if it was enough, he said yes. I am just happy they recognized it. The money is not important. Then said and I kid you not. It is how I met my wife. I could not go home to the north because canadians were still liberating towns.. families took us in who had next to nothing to share, all they had was potatoes and a clean bed, hospitality. The home that took me in had a daughter ... I married her. She was sitting next to him. . He found a positive in it all. He also told me that his camp was the only one in the Netherlands liberated by Americans... he had no clothes, he was naked, but an American soldier gave him a uniform ,., he still has that uniform to that very day I met him. He was just a man sitting next to me in the doctors office who I struck up a conversation with while we had a very long 45 minute wait before one of us was called. Beautiful monuments to the dead that really brings what was simply read in book to reality. When you walk by a school ... this beautiful old building and stop to admire the architecture... then realize there is a plaque on the wall stating it was a Jewish school and all the children were sent to concentration camps. With apologies. In bayeaux France there is a hauntingly beautiful monument that I stopped to admire, then realize it has the names of all the Jews that lived in that town who were sent to camps. I read every name. This is not something to make light of at all. We have Rememberence days for a reason. If you forget, it can happen again. It is a way to move forward, don't live in the past, move forward, but don't forget. Lest we forget.
I don't know how long you'll still be able to find pics of this, but look up Yolocaust. A site was created to take advantage of the stupid crap people do at Holocaust sites. He captured their selfies, including a woman doing yoga on a memorial, and then applied them to actual holocaust images. The results are grim and stunning at the same time. https://au.news.yahoo.com/a/34290467/yolocaust-death-camp-memorial-selfie-snappers-shamed-into-apologies/#page1 This folks, is privilege.
That is insane, very sad and stupid..... I wonder what goes through the brains of some people sometimes......
They look mostly like tourists to me. Taking a whimsical pic at a historical monument. Inappropriate maybe, disgusting. .? Depends on the motive.
