Heya. We are looking to get from victoria up toffino way... maybe via duncan and a few other places... would you say hitching is a good idea over here? or is it a better bet to use public transport?? Justt looking for some oppinions (and if anyone can offer a lift even better )
oh ya...thats a great and easy hitch hike up to tofino. especially this time of year. i have done it numerous amounts of times, and had soo much fun doing it. if you are lucky then you will catch a ride with someone whom is keen on exploring too, and you can get them to stop off at some of the amazing places along the way, like Cathedral Grove. there is a bus which is pretty cheap, which will direct you right to tofino too. once i went up through coombs, and they have that quaint farmers market type thing there, and of course they are famous for the grass roof with goats on the roof. well, wouldnt you know we were trekking that road, and the goats were fucking on the roof!! hahahahah..the funniest thing ever!! so we pulled over, and took pictues, laughed and ate ice cream! that was hitchhiking, and one of the best drives! stopped and walked along the old growth forest, wowzer...too great!! i'd say go for it! write up a big ol sign with a happy face on it stating Tofino..and you wont have a problem! wish i was going out there this summer..one of my favorite places!
hitching on the island means staying away from nanaimo. that place is the least friendly town in canada.
that's for sure, Nanaimo is a horrible place to get picked up. A friend and i wanted to hitch from Nanaimo to Victoria and had to walk for hours upon hours with no one picking us up. Was easy to catch a ride from pretty much anywhere else though, especially coming back from Tofino area... definately helps if you have a girl with you (or if you are a girl). 2 guys with big packs aren't as attractive to pick up as a guy and a girl, especially if it's the girl that's doing the thumbing. Seems a bit sexist, but that's been my experience.
