I was just wondering if anyone here has hitchhiked across the USA before. How long ago did ya do this? What states did ya go thru? How long did it take ya to get to final destination? What did ya bring with you when ya started? Where/how did ya solve the problem of eating & showering? Would ya do it again?
only across a state that was enough for me . it took a week.. i showered in bathrooms and stole things it wasnt pleasent.
Nope and I don't really plan on it but my goal one day is to go to every state. One state= one day there. My mom told me she hitchhiked across the country but says times have changed.... haha.
I'm way too much of a wimp to hitchike a few blocks, let alone across a country. Mind you, people here are creepy fucks.
yeah i'm thinkin nowadays that's preeeetty much a deathwish. my mom hitchiked around canada when she was my age though with her friend, they stole clothes and food and stuff to keep themselves going.
my father was hitchhiking from greensboro NC to syracuse ny to visit a friend...i guess he took acid with one of his ride providers
I've driven across the US and into Canada, but there is no way I would hitchhike! I especially wouldn't recommend it to a female, this isn't the 60's anymore and it probably wasn't even that safe then.
spent 7 years hitchiking all over the united states,, i left home at 15 so that would be the summer of 79 settled back here the summer of 86.. Ive been in every state except for those in new england above new york state and hawaii. When i started i had a duffel bag full of clothes an a bed roll,, when i ended i had a backpack fula clothes an gear and a sleepin bag.. youd be amazed at the compassion of others,, real baths came at least once a week,, hot meals gettin yer clothes washed etc.. missions an the salvation army were always viable options as well.. would i do it again?/ hell yeah if i was a kid again... Oh an numa 1 ya gonna get banned for that sig pic...
I hit the road when i was 15, spent wayyy more time off than on till i was 23, got to be like home. traveled across this country in about everyway you could think of, new all the best missions, hostles, and bum friendly towns. after awhile I could find a place to crash almost instinctavly, learned all kinds of tricks for showering and such, most important for most of them was not to look like a vagabond. got real good at driving and listening to peoples problems that being the most comman way i payed my way and numa's pic is seriously rude, few wanna see that, kinda turned my stomack, and if i had a dick that small i sure wouldnt advertise it
LOL, I haven't noticed numa yet or the pic...I'll look for it later. Right now I'm going offline to try & finish packing. I decided to do the usually way of travel as of the last few yrs...greyhound bus. Figured it was easier & faster seeing as I want to get to be in NH on my youngest daughter's birthday. **edit...I just went back thru this thread & found the pic....OMG!!!!...that pic may be a form of free speech but why would ya want to speak in that way. LOL**
if we as hippies can save the world from the illuminatis, then we'll be everybody's hero and it'll be cool once again for us to hitchhike
Molly you must have been an English teacher...LOL. Don't worry that's not an insult. I have never actually hitchhiked across the country even though I've always wanted to & still have plenty of time to do that. Even though members here & my ex have told me that this is no longer the 60's and is now not a safe thing for anyone to do. My ex reminded me of the people we have seen lying on the side of the ride or of girls beside the road that looked horribly beat up when he would drive us all cross-country yrs ago.
wonder if you can still go pick fruit and make a few quick bucks like we used too, probaly not, but that sure made things easier. bet you cant talk your way into a truckstop shower so easy either, oh well, times change, and so do we
this may not be the 60's but I've still seen the inside of a shower at a truckstop. As for berries there is a field FULL of raspberries, strawberries, blackberries & blueberries that grow every yr in the field at home in NH
