reading another post gave me a thread idea. Who has been the most interesting hitchhiker you've picked up. I was on the island Roatan here over the wekend, and on the way back, I picked up this back-packer for the 3 hour trip back home to La Lima. He was a 33 year old Missouri native from Humboldt... a professional chef, goods trades, teacher, and traveler. A remarkable person, Michael was his name. Talked to him all the way about so many things... he has been to so many places, very interesting guy, it was actually disappointing to leave him at a hotel... er had a good talk.
Arthur, an old Native American man we picked up on a Navajo reservation. He told me there have been great plans made for me. So I guess this means you should all kiss my ass now, because some day, I'll own you. Bitch.
I picked up four guys at once....and it was the only time I ever did it. They were driving a few hundred yards ahead of me in this really cool doonbuggy thing that they built from a kit or something....and it broke down. The first thing my mother told me when I got my car was never ever ever pick up hitchhikers, under any circumstance...so what did I do??? You guessed it... They were really nice though. And it turned out that they only had to go about a mile and a half down the road. A couple of the guys were here visiting from Colorado. They gave me free weed for my troubles. I still think about them and wonder whatever happened.... it was a cute little car. Of course, a weak, innocent, trusting 18 year old girl picking up four young robust male hitchhikers whilst driving alone was not the greatest idea that ever crossed my mind. I guess since I saw them actually break down, it didn't worry me as much. I probably wouldn't do it again....but it was a fun adventure.
The only hitchiker I've picked up was someone that I recognized from a class and who I had a huge crush on. So that was some good times.
I've never ever picked a hitchhiker, and I doubt very seriously I would ever pick up a hitchhiker. But in April, when I was in Miyajima (an island near Hiroshima), I was picked up by some older dude, which I think just wanted mostly to practice his English (I was walking toward that island's aqarium, and I was probably about 15 minutes away). He was very friendly, and we chatted for awhile. The weird thing was I wasn't even trying to hitchhike! But I'm definitely glad I got the ride. Actually, I would consider hitchhiking - but defininitely not in the U.S. Japan is a good place to go hitchhiking.

Back in the 50's my grandfather hitchiked from Shreveport, Louisiana, all the way to Cass Lake, Minnesota, when he was on leave from the Army. I wish you could still trust people enough to do that. Of course, he had a uniform on, so it probably helped.
This thread is a little bit old..but whatever..great title..I have picked up a few hitchhikers, even had to throw a guy out of my car once for digging through my glove box. I hitchhiked across America when I was 15 from Florida to California as a runaway..that was a crazy trip and I met some cool people and some odd ones..through Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and then California..took me 2 weeks..then lived in an abandoned house in LA for about 6 months with a bunch of other homeless kids till the cops talked to me and I did not have an ID..it took awhile but they ended up finding where I was from..it was 1983..seen Black Flag and JFA live that year, changed my life, at least musically.
