    Hi,

Did anybody here grow up having hippy parents? If so what was it like? How different was your upbringing compared to say your peers? Tell me you stories - I'd love to hear them. [IMG]

yeah, my parents were both hippies, my father is now a college professor of math.

oh it was so cool, beatles in the bath tub, grateful dead all the time. i saw pink floyd's The Wall when i was 5. and they never pushed their religious opinions on me or anything of that nature.

Well, lil darlin, if you are talking to the old hippies in the Old Hippies forum, then, no, don't think too many of us oldsters had hippy parents. Beats, maybe; hippies, mmmmmmm no. Remember, we're the age group that started the hippies;) (although HIPPY was buried a looooong time ago).

I know it's the old hippie forum! Originally I thought of adding it into the young hippies but it's mainly teenagers who post there (who would be like the gran kids of the hippies, well in some cases), whereas in the old hippie forum there is a much broader age range. Besides I got a few replies anyway. "Hippie" or "Hippy" - means the same thing to me just a different spelling.

My parents are pretty much hippies. My dad has always grown as much of their food as is possible. We seldom wore shoes. We (I have 3 siblings) were always taught to be open minded and were allowed to make our own decisions about most things. I spent a lot of time as a kid dancing with my mom to the music she loved, James Taylor, the Beatles, Neil Young. We never had air conditioning or video games. We didn't watch television on a regular basis. It was a great way to grow up. I love my parents and I have tremendous respect for them. Now, I hope that I am instilling the same qualities in my daughter.

my father is a hippie and is still in that state of mind i find it kind of cool because i am open to try new things and dont have to believe in what religion they believe in (both parents have different ones) i grew up learning about the earth open to try drugs if i wish. having good music around me and in a city ful of college kids there are alot of hippie ones so i find it good but to my boyfriends family they hate me they hate my family and hate the way i grew up even though im still in school have a job and never pressured him into anything (but its there opinion not mine)

Kindaish. They were the children right after the Hippies. So they never got to be real Hippies. Ya know? They still listen to the around same music, not as into The Dead and such, and they have the basic ideas of them.

But they were never really Hippies because they were too young in the 60s.

People have been telling me for years I'm a hippie. I'm starting to believe them.

great pic .. my boy's a hippie.. he was born in a comune in haight ashbury. he never grew out of it..altho he did remove his nose ring recently..he's been a hippie from day one.. he was born in 70' and wore tie-dye and long hair till he started school..he's got a huge heart and expresses it in the art he creates.. his daddy was a haight street hippie too and also an artist..I'm proud of my boy for keepin' the faith' and being himself no matter what the outcome..he turned out pretty good..

My parents were way before the hippie movement, but in their younger days they were very bohemian...beatniks was the term used for them back then. My father was a gentle person, a dancer, and he never really fit in the society of his day. My mother was strong and opinionated. She held us together and gave us a strong sense of who we are by encouraging us to be open minded, loving and gentle people.

My oldests kids are grown now and I think they would say they grew up with hippie parents. Their dad has always played in a band and given music lessons out of our home, and their mom has crazy ideas about doing things naturally. My daughter and her husband are following in the hippie tradition with long hair, homemade clothes, music and vegan foods. Thier 3 year old boy has hair past his shoulders and rarely wears shoes.

Come to think of it, my 8 year old daughter came running in from outside while I was writting this. She is dressed for this cool fall day in a warm sweater (with flower pin) patched jeans, and ....barefoot! Go figure!
