What energy type drinks do you have instead? And how often?

    Try green tea!
I personally don't usually need caffeine, I weened myself off of coffee with green tea and now nothing and I am way more awake than when I was caffeinated.
I think energy drinks are probably shit... but maybe its possible that there are some good ones out there but I doubt it!

If you have a healthy enough diet, and drink enough fruit/vegetable juices/get enough sleep at night/drink enough water/excerize daily..
    you shouldn't need energy drinks.

Uhm... hmmm..... you could use NONI
    [IMG]

    or..... Goji Berry Juice
    [IMG]

But those are both expensive, and you drink them in a shot glass.
I usually get these pre-made organic smoothies from shoprite, I can think of the name and I'm at work so.. but one is a protein chai, and they have a citrus vitamin c one and a berry one and a vanilla chai.

Oh wait here it is. The company is called Bolthouse farms.
The chai's don't do much for energy.... but.....they have alot of different mixes. So alot of them have no caffiene but alot of B vitamins and such.

Also, for energy in the morning I just take a big B vitamin complex.

Nothing compares to coffee, maybe coca leaf tea but that is not available to most people.

I did an experiment once, I though I was getting to dependant on coffee for a wake up so I would roll out of bed thrown on my jogging clothes and go job a few miles first thing every morning for about a month. I wanted to see if my body would just get used to firing up in high gear as soon as I got up with out coffee. I did work but I decided I like the nice peaceful transition between sleep and full gear with a nice cup of java in the morning.

Just have a cup of nice hot soothing java and don’t worry about it.

Every time I see it laying around, I'll through myself to the ground to lapp it up and the sheer physical exertion I put forth will wake me up! :)

Perhaps you can do what they do in sports contests. Get as much water as possible in your mouth... then when everyone expects you to swallow it, just spit it all up in the air.

Yerba Mate tea is wonderful for a strong energy burst, but different than other teas or coffee in that it contains numerous compounds from the Xanthine family (from which caffeine hails). It speeds heart rate and aids alertness, but also acts as a smooth muscle relaxant and mild antidepressant. Guayaki is a popular brand found at health food stores, but you can also order it online. Many serious coffee addicts have even used it to quit "cold turkey" and are quite pleased! I love it and drink it everyday, as it also is packed with antioxidants and minerals like magnesium.

Coca tea is also good, but illegal in the US. Still, there are numerous sources for it online and it can be bought in large or small quantities from many vendors. I get 100 bags for $20.00 from one bolivian company, and am quite pleased.

Ephedra Sinica is a natural stimulant that, when used responsibly in drinks like tea, can have few side effects and be quite potent. It's a bit harder to find since being outlawed in 2004, but Ephedra Viridis is still available. It's been used for thousands of years and is safe when the directions are followed (don't use if you have heart disease, etc.) and is actually less harsh on the body than coffee, which contains hundreds of chemicals and also pesticides.

Most energy drinks are full of sugar, taste like crap, and don't really do much after a while, but I'm starting to see more "healthy" versions coming out, so read up on those if interested.

While I love the smell of coffee, the flavor has always been too strong for me.

I don't drink anything for energy. Its a crutch!!! My friends call me names like the energizer bunny and the human dynamo. I'm this way because my system is very clean and I'm physically conditioned by 30+ years of bicycling. Vegetarian for 25+ years.

And I don't drink water either. :) Fruit juices mostly. An occasional soda. Sport drinks when I bike.
