Does it ever annoy any of you when people spell Hippie >> Hippy?

    Same here :)

    One hippy
    Several hippies

I can generally overlook that though.

It's the general and prolific crimes against spelling are more annoying.
This being too perfect an example....

Translation: No, I know no one like that
Or possibly I don't know no one like that (in essence 'I know lots of people like that')
(see there is a reason why double negatives are frowned upon)

Really what the hell is up with that?
I am just honestly curious what the motivations are, as whole thing makes no sense to me what so ever (as in why bother, obviously I can read it, usually).

Would never expect everyone to use perfect standard English all the time, because even I don't, but surely we could at least try. For the sake of clarity, and frankly just looking reasonably intelligent.

Oh and spare the flames, what you think of me cannot possibly be as bad as what I think of you.

    LOL :)

    It's spelt g-r-a-m-m-a-r, darling.

Important words of advice: never take advice from people who give the impression of being less knowledgeable than yourself.

I like hippy, because it's only one letter away from happy, which I have been ever since I realised life isn't all about trying to live by other peoples rules. :)

Although it seems rather apparent that the prefered spelling is "hippie," I don't really think that it makes a great deal of difference one way or the other. "Hippy" and "hippies," would certainly seem to fit in with general grammatical rules, anyhow.

Everyone who spells it as 'hippy' is obviously an enemy of the Reich and will be deported immediately. Orders from the Fuhrer himself.

I spell it 'Hippie' but that's just personal preference. I guess I do that because I own a book with that title and spelling.

I think it's goofy to get mad or stupid shit like that, I'm pretty sure there are more important things to be mad about right now.

Is there a "correct" way and an "incorrect" way? I personally don't care either way. I usually spell it "Hippie" though. Just because I guess it's the most common ( I've seen) and I too had a book that spelled it that way too. :)

I can't stand it when people think this way! In school we weren't allowed to wear sweatshirts because gangmembers wore them. We weren't allowed to wear baggy pants (i.e. not skin tight) because gang members wore them. We weren't allowed to wear hats, or certain color combinations, or bandanas (even ones with flowers or smiley faces, or the school logo!), or adidas, or color our hair, or have any 'distracting' hair style such as a mohawk, because all these things are "gang related". and the funny thing is, my school didnt even have a gang problem! so, in theory, gang members have hands, we dont want to be like them, lets cut our hands off. soulrebel51 has eyes, we dont want to be like him, so lets gauge ours out. that's just stupid.

p.s. i always spelled it h-i-p-p-i-e because thats the way books, magazines, and newspapers spell it. but i don't see anything wrong with h-i-p-p-y. i think it looks younger... :)

No, that doesn't bother me a bit. I usually have better things to worry about. Why sit and pick apart peoples spelling and grammatical errors..it's just hurtful. Some people just can't spell good..no big deal.
