Nope. I'm 15. "hippie" clothes don't have to be expensive, my favorite pair of jeans are from the clearance rack at kohls and they have black paint splatters, ripps and I sharpied on a peace sign and some flowers here and there. If they aren't "hippie" jeans, I don't know what are. and they were about $10. Most of my clothes are older, and the stuff i wear most frequently is either band t-shirts from target or peasant shirts that my aunt or mom can't wear anymore. Try Ragstock if your lookin for good deals on hippie-ish clothes. I don't know though...maybe you consider Hollister hippie clothes?

Oh and those self richeous people who glare at you probably aren't REAL hippies, they just dress the part and listen to some cool music and think they're so great.

i have old long gauze skirts that were "in" back in the late 80's early 90's i still wear. i shop at thrift stores and sew part of my stuff. i will buy newer stuff from Gypsy Rose and asssorted other places but i scrimp and save for the new stuff. i think it's more fun to revamp stuff and make it your own. to hell with a bunch of stuck up snobs. do you really want to hang with people that are so hung up on material stuff?

Hippie clothes aren't expensive, that's the point. Make your own, and don't worry about the looks other people give you.

People always look mee up and down, I can even see them whispering about mee sometimes...but as wootier said I get a kick out of it, I like celebrating who I am and most people I talk too like that about mee...the clothes I wear are unique and bright.you don't need money...alot of my clothes are stolen from my mums closet...seriously the stuff you can get from your parents is usually pretty cool...and original for our times...I op-shop and get my mum to make mee clothes so you don't really need that much money at all!!

People are always going to judge you no matter who and what kind of person you are, it's a fact of life...wee just have to ignore negativity, and celebrate who wee are and want too bee, people who judge can never truly bee happy with themselves.

pretty much all of my clothes and shoes were either given to me as a gift, i found them someplace, they were a hand-me-down, or it was just straigh-up free. the last thing i bought was a shirt from farm and fleet (big hardware-type store, if you´re not familiar) - before that, it had been probably a year.
i just never think to buy clothes. my only wake up call is when they start falling apart, getting too many large holes in them. i´ve noticed that my dreads have been destroying my shirts, too. the upper shoulders and back on all of my tshirts are like webbing - tons of holes from the hair constantly rubbing on the fabric.
pretty much any given day, i can look down and say, "given to me, free, free, found it." that´s my "outfit."

    You should have knifed them.

    Also, you really misunderstood Molly...

When I was a Hippie there was kids who constantly took the piss out of me. I just told them to go fuck their mothers, or, if it was a female, I would tell them to lose weight...Thus, they go home and become anorexic from shame of their own self-consciousness.

I was a fucked up kid.

"hippie" clothes to me basically means clothes that weren't bought for too much money. During 10 years travelling, my outfit was whatever i had been able to come across that looked interesting or functional... usually layered with something else that may or may not have matched.

The modern roaddog hippie look is much more of put together clothes than bought matching. Anyone wearing too bright of "hippie clothes" makes me paranoid. The classic hippie look can about only be found in stores nowadays, but then the classic look is also about a parody of itself.

Where clothes that make you feel comfortable in...

If people look at you as something less because of your appearance, you can take that opportunity to make the world better by making them question their initial reaction.... based on your humour/personality/intelligence/spirituality/whatever... It's important to learn about people if you ever travel much, and then you learn that there are also plenty of folks out there with a special eye out for "hippies" that they want to meet.

haha me too!!! i was a hella fucked up kid. like when i used to look all gothed out and shit and there was this group of boys in my grade in middle school and they would follow me around reading from the bible and shit and constantly yell "jesus loves you!!!" whenever i walked by. i began responding with "i know he loves me i fucked him last nite" and they were horrified. like they were genuinley scared of me after that thinking i was a satanist or something. also i used to have a habit of telling bitchy old people tp go break a hip. it was pretty funny until one bitch actually went & broke a hip, by no fault of mine. haha it was my 5th grade teacher. i kinda felt bad after that

a lot of "hippie" kids dont see me as a hippie because:

#1 I dont really dress like it--I just dress according to my mood. I have some hippie stuff, but the rest just doesnt do it for me(ie, patchwork an all that)

#2 I HATE jam band music....Phish, Widespread, all those neo-hippie jam band music. I love the old stuff. I know my old music very well. But I just cant stand the new stuff. And I guess that disqualifies me from being part of the hippie clique of today.

Yeah, it's not the clothing that counts, it's who you are inside. Now me, I'm for peace, love, understanding, a clean earth free of corporate greed and everybody being able to live in harmony. On the subject of clothing though, try going to a goodwill store or even making your own if you are able to, Peace, love, and blessings.
