Today I tried this reciepe out and it was very good. I found it last week on this site: http://drink.allrecipes.com/az/mstrdmhippisymilkchi.asp Hope you enjoy it, too.
I have no clue where to buy cardomom pods. Can you find them in a regular store, or do you have to usually go to some weird exotic foods store?
They are common in Indian food. heck an Indian store. Get the rest of your spices there too, since they will be cheaper there
if you live in a mid sized to large city, most of your larger supermarkets should carry cardamom in some form in their spice section. if they dont, then yes, a middle eastern/indian store, a healthfood store, and herb store, or other specialty shop would be quite likely to have them. they are not used exclusively in indian and middle eastern foods, its just that they are used existensively in such foods whereas its less commonly used in western dishes. its not a complete stranger to our cuisine though, and most large stores will have it either in the spice section or the ethnic section. however, it may make a difference if you're talking about cardamom seeds or pods, i think. i've bought cardamom both for indian cooking and as an ingredient in a few liqueurs, and i never had to make more than one stop to find it. i got it either at kroger or meijers, i forget which.
