Ok, hippiehillbilly mentioned this, and I think it's a kick ass idea. One of us (I'll volunteer) could start it up with say 4 squares (just a ballpark) and send it to the next on the list, who would add on another 4 and so on. Then someone could add on the backing, and voila, a hipforums quilt! We would have to figure out what to do with it after that, but I think it would be really cool to sell if on ebay or etsy and donate the money to some charity we all agree on. So what do you all think? I'm super stoked on the idea, and there are so many crazy talented mamas and papas on here that I think we could make one serriously amazing quilt!
I really dig this idea! I'm joing in on the action for sure. But one thing, the postage for the last person will considerably more than everyone else... maybe we could all just work on four, or more squares(what dimentions?) and then all send them to one person who will then sew em all together and add the backing. This person needs to have a good camra to take loads of pics though. OOOOHHH oh oh man. How about the money goes towards a hipforums gathering of some sort. We could keep making quilt after quilt until there is enough to rent a park or something somewhere plus music food ect. Sweet whatcha think?
I like environmental junkie's idea acctually, cause if everyone just sends in thier squares all sewn together, it'll be easier to pull off than sending the whole quilt around. I think we have a better chance of it really working that way, and not getting lost halfway through. Putting the money toward a forums gathering would be super cool too, but that's alot of quilts we'd have to sell! I have a good camera and a serger, I'd be willing to stich it all up and add the backing. Maybe everyone could send in like a dollar or 2 to go for the backing and the stuffing inside? I'm thinkin 6"x6" for the squares, and each of us would stich 4 together, and maybe even add an aplique to our piece (but that wouldn't be required of course). What do you guys all think of the size and all?
I think it's a cool idea! I think sending the pieces to one person with a $1 or $2 would work best. It would be cool to do the gathering thing but I doubt that would ever actually happen, so selling it and donating the money to a good cause sounds like a better idea. I'm in if it's happening!!
so someone needs to commit to quilting the squares,,therefore yall need to find a willin fool that yall entrust to take all yer input an sew it.. but said fool should constantly discuss final product with all who send squares in.. should however it winds up be a mutual mastrpeice,,a bonding experiance,, a quilters guild masterpeice alla hip forums style.. good luck sisters,, luv n lite..
or we could do a swap so we all get a little bit of a hip forums quilt. i've done this before in other groups, everyone sends a certain number of certain size squares to one person who divides them up and sends a package of all the different squares to each person. i've seen themed swaps of this sort too, certain color or theme or whatever.
i think this is a great idea. maybe we should look into an actual quilt finisher to sew up the top and quilt it. my friends mom use to do this . alot of people that own a quilting machine take on jobs like this and a reputable person would be someone all members could trust.
I can't do this kinda thing worth a damn, but my girlfriend is pretty darn good at it and I'm sure she'd be willing to work on it a bit
the more the merrier as far as I'm concerned. So, like I said, I'll sew up all the squares and finish it, my cousins mother-in-law is a quilter, and she's taught me quite a bit, plus I can always ask her for help, but if someone else around here is a super experienced quilter then they could do it if they were willing. Personnaly, I'd like it to be an "all in the family" kinda thing, and not turn it over to someone who was being paid. Plus, I can't afford much, lol, but that's just me. What does everyone else think?
Yeah I agree...the less money that changes hands, the better. I think it'd mean that much more if it was made completely by members every step of the way...
ok, so far in the swap we have: Me Cre Environmental Junkie Mountaingirl94 Sarahstar-? merrijayne4-? Fleassy Gruvenmama Hipmoon May is that about right? If that's what we stand at, and if we stick to a block of 4 patches (I'm thinking a sqaure, not a line) and each square is 6x6, then we would end up with a quilt that was 120x120, right? That's a good size, I'd still love to get more mamas involved! if this gets much bigger, maybe we'll make 2! Anyone want to finish the second one if it gets to that point?
I'd love to do this....I don't have a camera, so the mama's on here haven't been able to see any of my work, but I'd still love to!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
