My mom (she'z a hippie too) told me that they were making their skirts from that material wich is used in medicine to cover wounds it's made of really thin cotton fibers you know... and they would ket that material, and "clomb" it to make it maore thicker and thay would buy meters of that material and than they wouls make knots on the material and put it in paint, and than they would und the knots (after the paint would dry) and they would make 5 more pieces of those (different coulours) put it one over another and all that and they ould add hemp fibers and all that then they would knot the pieces (for keepind them to fall out when they would walk) and that was all. Sounds simple but I don't think it would look so good... so what do u think?! Shall I try this?!
sounds pretty complicated to me, and I'm not sure how you could really make gauze stable enough to get a good skirt out of it, but anything is worth a shot really. if you want to make a really simple gauzy skirt, go to http://www.dharmatrading.com/fabric/cotton/gauze.html and check out those fabrics. Then all you have to do is put like 2 or 3 layers together, figure out how big your waist (where you want the skirt to sit) is in inches, add another half of that to the mesurment (so if it's 20 inches, then you'll cut the skirt to 30) fold over the top about 1 1/2 inches and either put in elastic or a drawstring, and stich up the side. You'll prolbably need to hem it as well. Then you can tie dye it or do whatever you want, and voila, flowy gauzy hippy skirt if you do the other though, let us know how it turns out, I'd be really curious!
My brain imploded halfway through those directions, but if you do make a skirt like that- post pictures.
