Beat Crusaders are a decent band (especially their song, "Japanese girl."). They are gaining popularity here in America.
i know progressive rock bands...i think some of them have hip culture.. .Happy Family, Far East Family Band, Shingetsu, Ars Nova..
he's not hip but if you know what reall japanese music is try Katsuyo Yokoyama. P.S. don't forget that: when you're listen this man (esp. first time) be afraid and be alone. just trust me.
Denki Groove....and Takkyu Ishino.... these guys rock if you are into electronic music.... these guys just rock actually!!!
Orange Range is an awesome one. Same with Asian Kung Fu Generation. Oh, and The Pillows. Heh. FLCL... If you're more up for some "J-pop", then try Mikuni Shimokawa or Megumi Hayashibara. I have a whole load of different bands if you're interested,, alot of them are singles though. Hey tat,, have you heard "To All Tha Dreamers" by SOUL'd OUT? It made me determined to learn disco.
Ayumi Hamasaki (she sings all different genres: Rock, Pop, Techno, Classical, etc) Puffy AmiYumi-usually has a Beatles/Carpenters sound
I am in love with Ayumi, been obsessed with her for a good few years. Memorial Address is my favourite tune, which is strange as I'm not into cheesy soft rock, but I dunno it's the emotion in her voice. Beautiful xxxxxx
Not much into dir en grey...I don't like that music in english though either. I like Kana, don't know her last name. I like several of her songs but I think her well-known song is hebi ichigo (something like that, I'm not fluent in the language.) I also like nana kitade, and akeboshi. I found nana by complete accident, as I was looking for subbed episodes of NANA on youtube and found her. Oh yeah, there's also Utada hikaru, and Ayaka Hirahara..and I'm probably forgetting a ton more.
