I found this little monster today. He feel out of one of our trees and onto our deck while I was playing with my new kitten. I just thought the environment group would get a kick out of it. This is a special treet since most often these boogers are high in trees our burried (yes burried) underground. It's called the Hickory Horned Devil and as fearsom as it looks, it's completely harmless. It's a caterpiller that will later turn into the Regal Moth. It's such a great treat to get to see such a rare and special creature like this. Hope yall enjoy. Also, I hope this Thread can become like a meeting place for those who would like to post pictures of their rare animal finds. Just an idea. I'm a Biology majore and to me this is the greatest thing in the world. Here's the credit for the site I took the picture from:http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.shawnolson.net/media/art_1_1170_13.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.shawnolson.net/a/1170/&h=155&w=200&sz=10&hl=en&start=12&tbnid=PzT5NNGK19zDVMtbnh=81&tbnw=104&prev=/images%3Fq%3DHorned%2BCaterpillar%2B%26svnum%3D10%26hl%3Den%26hs%3DYAq%26lr%3D%26client%3Dfirefox-a%26rls%3Dorg.mozilla:en-USfficial_s%26sa%3DG

I would have immediatly stepped on it. I'd feel extremely bad afterwards, but bugs give me the heebie-jeebies =(. Yesterday, a white mantis found its way onto my deck. It was HUGE! Like 5 inchs tall. I flipped out and squeeeeshed it with my water bottle *eww*
