just wanted to introduce myself, astralweeks. (named after one of my fav 60s albums, by van morrison). i've always been known by my friends and family as the hippie one of the bunch, but i never really liked being introduced as such because of the connotations with it (dirty, lazy, druggie, you name it). but as time goes by, i realize how much i identify with hippie ideals - voluntary simplicity, care for the environment, liberation of the spirit. it's not a stereortype, it's a way of living. the most wonderful thing about hippiedom is realizing what true freedom is, and how to exercise it. it's hard to do in the society we live in. take care and hope to read more from everyone soon. love, astral
good words you got. those three things you say, that way of living, to embody it or aspire as best you can with the means you have, is all we really need. so many solutions to world issues and social issues are found in those three tenets you said, and so much more meaning could be had by many who have trouble making sense of this crazy world we live in.
thank you tundra. kind words! reading the different posts and replies, i'm already starting to feel at home. i do admit, a hard part of being a hippie is backlash from people on the "outside" - how to get them to understand freedom, how to let go, is so hard. love, astral
