I keep reading stories about how fucked up Texas is by people who lived there. It's like a whole nother repressed religious fundamentalist country like Saudi Arabia.

Funny thing is they worship a big orange blob more than Jesus.

After Trump lost the 2020 election, Texas AG, Paxton, in an unusual move filed a complaint directly to the U.S. Supreme Court (not an appeal of another case) claiming that the people of Texas were damaged by four battleground states because of the way they ran their elections.

The Supreme Court rejected the complaint stating that Texas didn't have standing.

It was a last-ditch, desperate effort by Paxton (a crony of Trump) to try to help Trump overturn the 2020 election.

Having lost in the courts, Trump helped incite a riot at the Capitol a few weeks later as his last-ditch effort.

U.S. Supreme Court throws out Texas lawsuit contesting 2020 election results in four battleground states

    excerpt:

"Texas has not demonstrated a judicially cognizable interest in the manner in which another State conducts its elections," the court wrote in an unsigned ruling Friday evening.

With Electoral College deadlines rapidly approaching, the ruling likely ends President Donald Trump's bid to overturn the election results through the courts.

It. is easy to pass judgement on an entire state based on their politicians and government actions. There are a lot of Texan's who are independent. and admiral people. I served in the Air force during the Vietnam War and was trained and stationed in the North of the state. I was previously a resident of California, and soon realized that there was an undercurrent of despise for Californians. At Christmas time the Hotels in Dallas sent overtures that service men in uniform could register for free in some hotels and enjoy free meals. In addition some offered USO Dances for free. I Joined several other Airmen from Jackson Mississippi for a two day diversion. The accommodations and Christmas Dinner were wonderful. We went to the Dance after the meal and entered a service line of well dressed women and their daughters. We would slowly meet and greet as we entered the ballroom. The guy in front of me was also from California. One lady asked him for his name and where he was from. When ha responded that he was from California, but had attended the University of Washington, the lady responded with "You are going to Hell." She went on and shouted "you are all godless homosexuals," and I will not let you meet my Christian Daughter. A hotel manager came over and said that you better leave. We were good enough to give up our lives for Texas but not to meet their daughters.

The manger rushed us of to another room that was reserved for hispanic service men. We were welcomed heartily and had a great time, dancing Latina college students. They even had a buffet with Mexican food which was slightly different from California Mexican food. I even met a lovely young woman who was related to Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna. We actually corresponded later until we both got married and started families.

It is not a good idea to judge all residents of a state or country without carefull consideration.

I know that there are kind hearted, open minded people down there, i know some personally. However, when the bible belt stops acting like bossy, theocratic, prejudiced, anti-intellectual turds, the rest of the states will stop treating them as such. No one is going to have anything good to say about people that want to roll ALL of us back to the dark ages. Far too many of them are proud of it. That's the worst part. It's practically impossible to argue with people like that because they wouldn't know humility and self reflection if it bit em.
