I'm about 15 weeks pregnant and just finished the book I was reading. I love to read and realize this might be the last chance I get for a long time ;). I love books on holistic nature, spirituality (general), motherhood and I also like a good novel. I have some factual books on motherhood that are good but I want something that can hold my interest for awhile. It doesn't have to be a novel but I would maybe like something on pregnancy/motherhood that has a more natural/hippie type nature to it. Anyone have any suggestions?

You would probably love Ina May Gaskin's older book, Spiritual Midwifery, as well.

I absolutely loved Babies Remember Birth by David Charleston (I think) MD.

Spiritual Midwifery by Ina May! I read it front to cover many times while pregnant, it's very informative and it's got birth stories so it's a really good read!

I bet I would like Spiritual Midwifery too. I should see if my midwife has a copy that she lends out. I'll see her tomorrow. I'm going to ask her.

Spritual Midwifery. Not only a great birth and mothering book, but a great hippy book, too.

As you can see, you almost DEFINED this book with your first post, and most agree. It's fantastic.

Thank you all! I put these on my "list" to go shopping. It's funny because Spiritual Midwifery has caught my eye a few times and I never bothered to get it (mainly because of the price...I've only seen it at natural food stores). Is it a fairly old book because I usually try to buy only used books so I'm hoping I can find a used copy.

yeah, either of Ina May Gaskin's books (she's working on a third one now)... :)
yes, Spiritual midwifery was originally published in the mid 70's, but has been updated and revised a few times since then. Ina May's Guide to Childbirth is more recent.

The Wise Child by Sonja Chocquette (I probably misspelled her last name)
Wise Woman Herbal for the Childbearing Year by Susun Weed
These are all books I read during my pregnancies. I also read a lot of pure indulgence fiction books (take your pick, hot steamy romance novels, science fiction, mystery, etc), because, like you said, you may not get a chance to read for quite some time after the baby arrives. My oldest child would never let me read while she nursed, but my younger one did, so I did manage to read a lot those first few months when my second baby was nursing constantly, all day, every day.

I have a really long list of books to avoid during pregnancy - LOL!!
Any of those "What to Expect" books and others like them are not conducive for a postive pregnancy, birth, or early postpartum experience.

Birthing from Within~ a REALLY good book for labor and Birth preparation, I lent it out so I can't reference the authors...it's a bright yellow book with a woman climbing out of a Kiva. I lost it when I was pregnant, and turned around and bought another. Highly recommended because, it's also informative regarding pain control techniques and allopathic methods and what you might expect when using those methods...like: did you know that pitosin can cause the baby's body temp. to raise and be mistaken for a "sickness" and not a "reaction" to pitocin? They may ask to do a spinal tap to rule out infection in the spine/brain....stuff like that happens!! Yikes! So this book talks about all that in an educated manner.

I agree with the "what to expect" books` they are sooooo lame and fear based!

Wishing you the bestest birth experience and SAFE delivery for your baby! BTW~ my son is 18 months and I still find time to read!~
