    I know. They're just words.

You can't condemn a symptom and use that as just cover to ignore the cause.

I tend to think of words like a politician. inherently, they have no significance. But mixed with an idea and the proper crowd they can take the meaning of anything. The power of human perception. Don't let it blow you away.

Here are some more words that mean nothing:

    Solution
    Responsible
    Right
    Wrong
    Morality
    Citizen
    Aware
    Self
    Destiny
    Respect
    Understanding
    Righteous
    Good
    Bad
    Honesty

every word has a meaning or there would be no such thing as language.

if words don't mean anything then instead of saying "i love you" to someone i should be able to say "you smell like hamburger me like yumyum" and they would understand how i feel.

Here is another word that you likely think has no meaning, but I would suggest you invest in one.

    Dictionary

Words are meaningless, depending on how you think of them. They are simply SOUNDS that come out of out mouths. We put meaning to them ourselves. If used in certain ways, words can seriously harm someone. Of course, it is up to the person to feel hurt. You cannot say that you have never felt hurt when someone insulted you. To call someone a faggot, you are clearly TRYING to hurt them, so that is all that matters. Maybe it isn't the word, just the vibe sent out with the word.

Actually, words have the meanings that our societies have agreed they have. That is how language develops. From meaning, to 'sounds coming from our mouths'. There was no grand council that got together and made a random sound and then people put a meaning to it...

A person had a thought, and they wished to express it verbally, so they made some sounds that they felt represented that thought, and others agreed and it circulated to others, perhaps being clarified, perhaps being changed, but always with meaning.

As to whether those sounds are being used to harm or aid, is totally besides the point to their meaning, only in the perception of that meaning.

****** for example is a racial slur that was used to elevate the speaker above others based on the color of their skin. Many, especially recently have tried to remake what the word means, but the problem is that society is slow to change and accept new things, even new meanings of words.

At any point in time that a word becomes meaningless, it falls from use and disappears into history.

But hey, what would I know... after all, I'm just a surface-thinker... right?

Of course, according to you, a word phrase such as surface-thinker shouldn't have any more meaning then any of the other words you listed first... sure does make a surface-thinker curious as to why you would use it....

    Yes dude. You got it.

You can say anything. And the meaning of the words often has no connection to the intentions of the one saying it other than what he wants to receiver to infer from them.

I say "This" because I want you to think "That"

Language is a tool for communication yes, but the shadow side of that is manipulation. And people allow themselves to be manipulated all the time without giving things a second thought.

But this is a diversion. The point with the first set of words is something else. Those words are taboo. You say them in public, people get insulted hurt and angry. So we are told not to say them.

But the words aren't where the hate is coming from. People are told to hate those words because it's a pleasant distraction from what they actually mean. They are just a shadow casted by some other object.

Short version: Political Correctness = Thought Policing

    Think about it.

You are missing the point so hard. You think I'm saying "words don't mean what words mean"

Your thoughts are too controlled by words to get what I'm trying to tell you.

Yes, there are a million ways to take in anything that is said, that certain vibe has to be there or it would make no sense. You could say "i fucking hate you" with a big smile on your face to your best friend, and they would just laugh. Why? Because your vibe told them you were joking... the tone of voice, facial expressions, delivery... they are more important than the words themselves.

A quote from some dead guy:

Everything you say has 3 meanings; What you said, what you meant to say, and what the other person thought you meant
