With the start of a new year i'm changing certian aspects of my life that are really unhealthy for my spirit and body. Some personal some not so. One thing I'm trying to get off of is majorty of caffine....This is the hard part because consume about a litter or 2 a day of Mt.Dew. I'm also going to try and ween my self off of meat. I decied insted of doing it all at once I'd start experimenting with diffrent foods to find something i like. hopefully in the attempt to make it easier on myself. So today i went to the store and bought Potatos, Carrots, and Appel juice.....lol I only had 20 bucks hahaha!!!!. But any snacks, recipes, advice would be MUCH appricated....God i hope i don't have caffine withdrawls....another thing is i live in texas....everything has meat in it HAHAH but i do live on a farm so i can get free range eggs :-D which is a plus i suppose...anyways here comes the headaches haha

Treat yourself a few times while transitioning to the point where veg choices are first choices. In the land of Iceberg lettuce salads, getting good, dark greens is important. learn to cook your own soul food side dishes, and learn to make whole foods. I too, became veg in Texas. (weatherford) in 1980. in a town with a sausage plant. I believe it has progressed somewhat, Gov. Bush aside. oh, wait, you pawned him off on the rest of us. Commerce is how long a drive to Dallas? in Time? for caffeine either have a detox or wean off. start with green tea, less caffeine than black tea. Or Yerba mate. great stuff and lots of energy. sugar might also be a problem if MtD is your caffeine source. the brain links the caffeine lift with the sugar rush. I never learned to like sweet tea, but if you like it, sub it for sodas for a while. lots of fast and detox threads in health.
Dallas is about 45 minutes away. So going there a couple times a month really won't be a problem. The only two stores to get grocies at around here *with in a resonable distance* is either Walmart or Brookshires...Yeah I loove green tea so that shouldn't be a problem. Just staying motivated i suppose.
wow. From mesquite to downtown D was 40 min! remember, it's a journey. sometimes we get messed up, but we can always get back on the path. are you living with your sweetie or your family? what's the support level you will get?
Right now i'm living with family. Out side of a few jokes or something it should be pretty good. My dad has went with me to get some of my peiercings so hes pretty cool.
I always thought mountain dew didn't have caffeine. That stuff is soo sweet, it's like nectar- I don't know how you can drink that much of it. You could switch to seltzer with lemon or something similar to that. The caffeine withdrawal shouldn't last too long, and drinking tea will help. Yummy snacks to eat: vegan nachos- tortilla chips with refried beans, salsa, guacamole, corn (or for a healthier version, do this in a tortilla rollup instead of chips) trail mix- your favorite nuts, dried fruits, and chocolate chips quick guacamole recipe- remove the skin from an avocado and then mash the avocado in a bowl with a fork. Mix in a big spoonful of salsa as well as some lemon juice (or squeeze a lemon over it). Guacamole is good on sandwiches, on pitas or flatbread, tortillas, or on cut up veggies like cucumbers or baby carrots. - If you're not good at cooking, there are effortless snacks such as tater tots (dip in applesauce or ketchup!), pretzels with mustard, apple chips, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, tomato sandwiches, fruit smoothies in a blender -I don't know any egg recipes or how to cook them, because I don't eat them. But my brother always makes omlets with peppers and stuff in them. You could get creative with that. Just don't eat too much of them, because eggs are high in cholesterol. I get a lot of easy recipes on www.vegweb.com They've got a lott of good vegetarian and vegan recipes. Good luck!
She isn't a veg but she said it didn't matter when we moved in cause she just wants to be with me..chessey i know but still
Get a friend to do it with you. Then it won't be as hard and will make it easier. Caffeine withdrawal is painful. Good luck and best wishes!
I'm in a mixed marriage, so it can be done. She HAS to be patient while you grill every server about every ingredient and occasionally send back things with bits o' critter in them. She'll also need to be conscious of where in the fridge meat is stored because of the drip effect. I get around this by getting my sweetie a roast, thawed, the day I want to make it. I have a really good air cleaner/filter in my kitchen so the stink doesn't invade the rest of the house, esp our room. again, approach this as a cuisine and its lots easier!
thanks for the advice. I'm betting I can get her to eat less meat....Consider'n she got really upset when the car in front of her ran over a opossum
Good luck! I was told by my dentist that the worst thing in the world for your teeth is Mt. Dew. It has so much sugar in it that all that sugar just stays on your teeth all day and eventually will rought away your teeth!!!! Needless to say, I started drinking lots of water and got thought it pretty good cause I just kept telling myself "either water, or roughting teeth" lol Good luck again!
do day at work a co worker asked me what i wanted, i replied a green tea i'm trying to cut back on caffaine...she comes back from the store with a 12 pack lol
The hard part for me right now is, I have a high metabolism so i eat alot through out the day. just gotta find something healthy i can snack on alld ay haha
hang in there. I go on and off caffeine with regularity so I hit headaches regularly. What did you think of the green tea soda? also, look into GT's Komboucha (and locally-brewed/cultured kombucha tea) in the TWO serving bottle. It's fizzy and kicks your energy level, if komboucha works at all for you. Recently the bottles have had lots of the babies from the pancake (the fermenting tea goodies) and I read that you can start brewing your own. no intended booze, but sometimes a trace. It's fermented on black or green tea. has lots o' good bacteria for the gut.
