i would really like to ge more into yoga and meditation, i take 2 yoga classes a week, but as far as meditation goes- i just don't get it. i think i constantly have TOO MUCH on my mind, and i really don't know how to completely relax myself and free my mind. i need some inner peace, and stillness- i'm hoping meditation can help me accomplish that. any tips?
My first tip would be to identify that what your trying to do shouldn't involve some type of trance meditation, but more of a mantra type. Heres a quick tutorial of what I do to still my mind using just my breath. Go to a silent place in the dark where you can be alone. Close your eyes and start to breath slowly. Just focus on your breath, keep your attention on it. You can count breaths if that helps. After a while(or right away), your mind should start to wander. The point is to recognize that your mind has just wandered away from your breath. As soon as you realize that, bring your attention back to your breath. Simple and effective. Don't contemplate too much by discovering meditation after meditation. Stick to one and practice. A lot of people make the mistake of putting too much thought into it, and never really get down to the practice. Don't give up, and don't expect nothing.
