Thank you for the encouragement gate, and I do appreciate your candor. I have felt the same way for a long, long time. Sadly, that same attitude is one embraced by youth, the marginalized, and people who feel to old, to broke, to powerless or to fearful. Exactly what the system you speak out against wants you to feel! That way "they" can continue to capitalize on your apathy and grow fat at your expense. Just like you, they don't give a flying fuck about the future or empty values like love and hope. They just want to insure their own lust and greed for money, power and control are safe and increasing for today. They are the corporations who sell lies and products worth far less than what they charge. They are the politicians who are compelled to corruption because it's just the way things are done. They are the profiteers, manipulators and merchants of misery who prey on the weak, defenseless, ignorant and naive of our society. Listen Friends, there are many organizations and good causes to hook up with that are doing a great deal of good in the States and in the world. Some folks are politically motivated. They find purpose within political party affiliations. Others thrive within speacialty activist groups such as Green Peace, NORML, Amnesty International and PETA. And there are many who are attracted to volunteer work with charitable organazations like the Red Cross, United Way and MDA. Lastly, there are countless religious organizations and affiliations that fulfill people's need and desire to serve a cause that is purposeful and meaningful for them. While these groups all differ greatly, they all have one thing in common. They all began with an idea or purpose and only a small group of people who were passionate about getting something started. The idea for a peaceful activist group such as HELP is one that has been brewing in my own heart, soul and mind for more than 20 years. I've started a few unrelated groups in the past, have been part of others, and have considered participating in many. Still, I've always felt that there was something more I desired to be a part of that is not offered by any group, organization or affiliation I have knowledge of. What would it mean to be a member of HELP? Well, for the most part that is yet to be seen. The basis for forming the group is defined in my opening post here in this thread. The specifics will come as we progress. But for starters, you will be on the ground floor. You will have the exciting opportunity to influence the creation of a group that has the potential to become a movement! This is your chance to shake off the shackles of a repressive system and do something they say you can't do. Remember, every activist group started with an idea to accomplish something, and a small group of passionate people who worked hard to get something started. Do you dare catch this vision and consider the possibilities with me? What are the possibilities? With the communication and media technology available today, this idea has the potential to grow bigger and do more than any of us can now imagine! The social and political climate in this Nation and around the world is ready for something new. Humanity is screaming out for hope, encouragement, love and peace, and they aren't getting it from their government, religions, social programs or educational institutions! People need something to believe in again. I know I do. From what I have perceived from the replies and posts in this forum, there are plenty of others also. I'm sick of pipe dreams and fantasy. Altho I appreciate the brothers opinion, this is not a Political Forum, Perhaps some place other then the Garden would be better to address your plans to take over the world. I don't care to be forced to comply with any ones demands to 'be or not to be'. These chocies are to be made with free will, each in our own time of awakening. It's not going to happen overnight with one person, this is something that grows finer with time, and find a place to grow in hearts and minds.. it's not a political statement anymore, it's a way of life. A religion to some degree. We have to beat the system with what we say we live by. Peace, Love and Unity. Brute Force will only incopasitate not reform. We can only draw from what has failed and what has worked in our own lives and efforts we made in the time of changes. Mear words will not move mountains, unless you have "help" from the Universe. To dwell on any negitive force only draws it closer to you, I have only but to learn or be shown this lesson over and over untill I become it's message myself. I suppose that because I am new to this forum I should expect to be challenged; albeit ever so tactfully, and evaluated with regard to sincerity, motivation and integrity. I welcome that, and I respect the opportunity to reply in like manner since you are also new to me. You will see below that what I have proposed is definately not the values embraced by any political group I have ever heard of, and "plans to take over the world"? Really now! I have never been accused of being an evil genius, a maniacal dictator, nor a religious zealot. I hardly think my idea is so grandiose. I simply don't know how my invitation could be construed as attempting to demand that anyone focibly comply. Cults are defined as fringe religious groups, idolization, pertaining to a fad, system of supernatural beliefs or fringe specialty group. Hope Encouragement Love and Peace are universal concepts accepted and embraced by millions upon millions worldwide. As an example to the contrary however, Wicca does meet the criteria of cult, and is promulgated primarily by the female gender. I wonder if the opposition to my group expressed above is against the idea, or the man? I also think it demeaning to women to imply that they (as humans) do not also function with an agenda. Don't you really mean to imply "hidden agenda"? Well in that case, everyone knows women are the best at that! I have no hidden agenda. Once you get to know me better, and if you take the interest to find out more about what I propose, that will be clear. I'm not disagreeing with the Love Peace and Freedom Movement Trystn. It's that you came in with guns blazing, to get up and do something, like we were doing nothing and we were just waiting for you to give us direction on what to do with our lives.I was hoping thatThe Garden would be a place to get away from all the shit that clogs the mind and shadows the heart. Where we can relax away from lifes unanswered questions for a while and get to know one another, we talk of love and peace and we do what we can in our own lives to bring it about. What happened in the 60s/70s has left me gun shy as to following someones elses path and not my own. The 60's taught me that you can only depend on yourself to get you down the road. There are Waysharers along the way that help you grow, but it's up to each of us what we take and what we leave behind. What's good for one may not be what another needs to fulfill their journey. What we teach our children will have more affect then us ranting in front of the whitehouse. I paid my dues on the front lines, and have the battlescars to prove it, as does many of us here. You say you want a revelution, well, we're gonna have to have more energy then what us Originals have left. We faught our 'war' and rasied our kids and some of us are raising our grandkids and it is all we can do to keep smiling while we grow old in the doing. Several of us are in our sixties or close to it. Not that age matters but it is our time to reap what we have sown and contribute with our own lessons learned. What has worked and not worked in our efforts. To connect with ones that are working towards the same goals as we are living what we learned. We are bright shinning examples of being true to self. Your preaching to the choir.. but it's not a bad thing. I applaud you and others like you for having been part of something that did work in many ways to drastically change things for the better for us here in the states, and even around the world. Surely you wouldn't deny others who do share my vision, to at least explore the possibilities of reviving the same dream? A dream to be involved with something more than "me myself and I". Something that serves the greater good of the people. What we need is a new plan based on the same principals. Power to the People! I agree, it's going to take more than one lone voice crying in the wilderness to accomplish anything at all. I suppose that many of you have already heard that our right to due process and privacy have been further reduced today by Presidential authorazation which allows a US Security Agency to evesdrop on any citizen without a warrant. I sometimes wonder if any type of new effort isn't to little to late. But I do know one thing for sure, things aren't going to get any better for you or any of us in any number of areas if we do nothing. Folks have the right to rest on their laurels and comfortably enjoy the fruits of their labor til they die without being chastised for doing so. However, at the age of 45 I don't have that leisure or inclination. I am still in the thick of things. What I choose to do, or don't do now may drasticaly effect my ability and my right to do so 20 years from now. You say I came in with guns a'blazing! But if you will seek out and read my initial posts of only a few days ago when I first found Hip Forum, you will see that is not the case. I came here feeling quite hopeless and defeated without a clue of what I might find. In one of my early posts I shared the grief I felt, But then, I found hope and encouragement within the thoughts, ideas, and lamentations expressed here. Hope that was like breath to a drowning man. Hope that gave me the courage to believe in something again. Hope that caused me to realize, I ain't dead yet, and the reaper may not be ready for me for quite awhile! shameless_heifer, As I read your last post which I quoted from above, I imagined that back in the day someone probably spoke similar words to you. Words spoken from those who claimed their way was best, and most likely to succeed. Words of well intended wisdom, spoken from the lips of caring elders who had your best interests at heart while attempting to dissaude you from taking to the streets in protest. But you went anyway didn't you? Why? Because you had a new perspective on things, and you still dared to dream. Later in life, you were proud to have been part of something that resulted in at least some good for you, your children and society. If you or anyone else is unwilling or unable to lend their effort, experience or support to this effort, I can respect and accept that. But please stop quenching the fire that burns as hope within this forum. Please don't ask me to accept and embrace the notion that our best option is lose ourselves in some ethereal world of self centered aesthetic theology where the highest acheivement is to become one with nature. I will become one with nature when I'm dead and buried. Until then, the reality is this. If there is no one to work for the common good of the people, there will be no common good for the people. And the people include you and I.
Well I wouldn't call living on a farm resting on my laurals. and I am working on a very large scale Peace Fest as we speak. It's not to rebel against authrority, it to bring about the feeling of Love, Peace and Brotherhood. A chance to rekindle the Unity of the 60s/70s era. We are gathering bands and vendors for a three day music extravaganza called GoodStock Peace Fest 2007, we have over 100 bands so far and more coming in each day. If you want to challenge me, I don't have the time for bickering, or trying to prove anything to you. I'm not stiring up shit, I'm working to bring forth all that you talk of, walking the walk instead of just talking the talk. Please don't challenge me with words, I'm busy DOING!!!! You have cast dispersion on my idea to form a group to DO something, and have suggested that while you once were a part of an activist movement, you were now reaping what you had sown. You stated you now neither had the inclination or the energy to DO. You promoted an ideology of inaction above my vision to do more than talk, and now you come back with this..... So you are DOING something! And you are part of, or have formed your own GROUP to bring about an idea you believe in. Then why have you been throwing all the negative energy on my vision to Do? We are working on a solid location right now Bamboo. We do have a tenitive place in NC but are still opened to the Perfect Location, if we find one better suited. GoodStock is Old Garage Bands from the 60's/70s era, be they famous or not gathering in the name of Love, Peace and Brotherhood. We are still accepting bands and venders till June of 2006. That's when we will announce GoodStock Peace Fest 2007 to the public and sell tickets. It most likely will not be held in Texas. We are thinking more central so everyone has about the same distance to travel. When we have all the papers drawn and signed I had planed to promote GoodStock here in the forums. shamelss_heifer, Thank you for the word of encouragement! I'm sure I am not the first, and won't be the last "newbie" to jump in head first to promote an idea they believe in. The truth is, it was the members of this forum and the vision espoused here that first encouraged me to try to get something started. When I came here, I had no inspiration or direction for anything like this. I had fallen into a state of hopelessness and was desperately seeking a connection to something and someone. I did take your advice and move my "promotion" for HELP to another board more relevant, (Smoke Signals) and though I have mentioned HELP in a couple of other threads, I have participated in many other areas of Hip Forums without mentioning it. I dig this place and the people I have met here, even if the water has gotten a bit rough at times. I admit, I do come on strong and defend my ideas and beliefs passionately. I would like to apologize to you and any others here I may have offended. As a "newbie", I could have shown more respect by giving you the time to get to know me, and easing into things more slowly. I'm looking forward to GoodStock! If you need assistance to promote the event in the Bible Belt, I hope you will consider allowing me to help. A 14 year career in marketing, radio and television, has given me some skills in that area.
