if i wanted to practice yoga once everyday, what would be a good amount of time to be able to do so, so i would still have time for other things. is 20 min to short? and can you help me with beginner positions? i like the tree pose and downward dog. also i learn the cobra position today and going from dog to cobra would be a nice transitions but what position should i go from cobra to something to tree
Do as much as possible, its about pushing yourself but not too far. I would say 20 minutes is a good start. Look on the internet for some easier positions and study up. As for a routine. Dont worry too much about the technicality and have fun with it and experiment with positions/transitions.
Most librairies have videos to check out now. Try that. There's also sites online. Google them. I'm a yogi. Have been most of my life. Many are fond of just the physical part of yoga, but yoga is really a path to God realization. Just so you know. Get the body in shape, go up to the next level. x
20 to 30 minutes is fine for us beginners. Cobra and Dog are poses in the Sun Salutation series. To do the series, stand upright with feet together and place your hands in front of your chest, palm to palm (like praying). Raise your hands above (still palm-to-palm) and look up. Allow your back to arch and feel your chest open. Bring your hands down to your feet (or as close as possible) in a forward bend. Descend into a High Plank (a high plank is when you support yourself on your hands and feet as if you were going to do push-ups), hold for one breathe cycle (or more, if you want to work on your abs). Then as you exhale lower yourself to the floor, then do Cobra and then Dog. Then go back to a High Plank, then bring your feet forward one at a time back into Forward Bend, then stand upright with your hands again above your head with palms together. Then lower your hands to your sides. Basically after the Dog, you work through the series of poses in reverse order (except for Cobra) until you end up standing again, which gets you ready for the Tree pose. And most importantly, don't forget to breathe!
