for the past year or so ive had this vision like every hippie teenager. but for some reason i really feel my destiny wanting to go my vision and set out to accomplish it. but life has already been planned out for me by my family and its headed in the opposite direction of my vision. i dont kno wat to do. all my friends tell me i should go through with it. that it fits me just perfectly. on the other hand my family wants me to go to college and be the first to do so. im stuck between a rock and a hard place. give ur input in wat i should do.

Make your own choices, If you do not want to live the life your folks have chose for you tell them. But if I were you I would still go to college, but pick something that you would enjoy. Life without an education can be a bit hard at times. But not impossible.

    How long does college last?

Can your parents compromise (You do what they want - then you do what you want) ?

A college education is a good fall back if your 'vision' does not work.

Do you know what you want to study? If not, it can be a waste of time and money.

My son attended college for three years before he dropped out, and then a year later went to ITT and graduated with honors and is now working at a job he loves and pays very well.

I went to college right out of high school, lasted two years and dropped out. I went back to college in my 30's and almost made it, and then went back again when I was 50.

I'm still trying. College is just one way to get an education. Travel, volunteering, independent study, interning, working and life experience are
all part of a full education.

I may not have a degree, but I've been very successful in my life.

Well one needs to get set up in life this way or another. It's hard work anyway, we just choose this way or another. And sometimes you don't know which is better.
But best choice is to do what you can find interesting to do. And it may be not exactly what you've been dreaming of.

I have a friend who is a complete hippie. You look at her and you know but when you talk and get to know her then you can see that the hippie lifestyle radiates out of her. She is going to college and doing something that she enjoys but at the same time works on a farm and volunteers wherever she can to help others and the Earth. The point is that if its possible you can do both. Living the hippie lifestyle doesn't mean that you have to drop out of school but again its your choice. No one can tell you its wrong if you know that your life will be successful without an college education. I agree with eponabri, when look for education throughout the world and not in a classroom you might be getting one of the most wonderful experiences and education of your life. It all depends on how you plan and work everything out.

On the other hand, you can be a person that lives life as it comes which is perfectly fine too but in this day in age you have to have a plan. Unfortunately, things aren't like they used to be where money wasn't as big an issue as it is now. It all take time and some thinking.

Going back to my friend, what I see that she is doing is that she is going to college and has what I call a "hippie major". But it's all up to you and some adjustment with your choice to finally be happy.
