Hi, um I was looking for a site to help me out and I came across this one... I have a problem, well quite a few....
    1. I want to be a Vegitarian but I have to eat fish and eggs and dairy products, what type of vegitarian am I ?? (p.s don't say that I'm not a vegitarian because I am in sorts)
    2. I have only recently decided to become a vegitarian after watching a program on how they breed, murder and process the animals, ( I was also physically sick) but my mother can't accept that I don't want to eat meat. At first she thought it was for attention, then she thought I was mucking around and now she reckons i'm being idiotic and wants me to eat meat!!

Please please please please somebody help me.

I'm sorry, hon. It's difficult, dealing with parents. Many of us have had to deal with our decisions looking like a bad path but you can look up many sites online and find information on vegetarianism to show your mom.

And, yes, you are still a vegetarian whether you eat fish/dairy/egg products or not, just a different kind of vegetarian. It still takes determination to cut meat out of your diet and you can still pat yourself on the back.

Good luck in your journey toward vegetarianism [IMG].

I'm sure you'll find yourself feeling much healthier & altogether much better after cutting meat out of your diet. It's a beautiful feeling.

If you still eat any kind of sentient being you are not vegetarian. Eating fish would make you a pescatarian (if you wanna get technical about terms here). If you're doing it for the welfare of the animals you need to cut out ALL animal products. Vegan is the only way to be a true ethical vegetarian, in my humble opinion. Dairy cows and battery hens have a pretty shitty life (even the so called free range chickens). If It were me I'd just not eat any of the animal parts my parents were trying to feed me. If they would rather see me starve than eat a healthy vegetarian diet they're not very open-minded caring parents. And since I have a feeling your parents love you I think that if you stand your ground they will concede. Be strong! Is your mom going to strap you down and force feed meat down your throat if you don't eat it? That would be downright abusive and horrible. Stand up for what you believe in cuz what you want to do with the whole veg thing is a GREAT thing!

i was reading a mag recently and they were interviewing some celeb.......it was a model........oh it was christie brinkely. anyway she said she "firmly believes in a vegetarian diet...no other way to live." and then went on to describe her typical daily food intake and for lunch she always has "fish".

anyway to the OP...there is a great book for teens on veg*ism and it also talks about how to deal with not so supportive parents. i cannot remember the name but it was pretty obvious with a title like "vegetarianism for teens" or something to that effect. check out some bookstores. good luck

Well...lol.. I guess if we're gonna get all super technical about it she's a ovo-lacto-pescatarian. I cannot acknowledge the vegetarian part cuz... well... obvious reasons.

    Vegetarian:

    noun-
    1. One whose diet consists of grains, plants, and of plant products and who eats no meat
    2. One who practices vegetarianism.
    3. An herbivore.

    adjective-
    1. eating only plant and plant products.
    2. Consisting wholly of vegetables and vegetable products: a vegetarian diet.

Pieboy...I've got a pretty open and fucked up sense of humor but you've got a really, REALLY fucked up sense of humor. I wonder if you have a human skin lampshade made by Nazis from Jew's skin? I took no delight in watching what you call funny animal cruelty and I find it disturbing that you would post that idiotic video in the veg area. Of course, you probably did it just to get a rise a out of people. Well.. guess what? It worked! Are ya cumming all over yourself with joy over your coolness?

    Vikki,

all you can do is what is right for you. The label isn't as important people want it to be.

Maybe you could provide your mom with some research info showing how all of your nutritional needs can be met in a veggie diet?

Hi!!! Technically, like others have said you'd be a lacto-ovo pescatarian. Which I think has a pretty cool sound to it ;) The way I see it, someone who ONLY eats fish for meat has got to be "better" than someone who eats all sorts of meat, right?

As for your mom... well, as a mom I am most inclined to go along with my kids' ideas when they bring them to me as a thought-out plan. Find some info on how to go about being a vegetarian the right/healthy way and show her that. Show her that you know which nutrients you will need to alter in your diet, and perhaps a list of alternatives. It would show that not only are you serious about this, but that you're serious about doing it right. That's what *I* would agree to!

Having said that, my little sister chose to be vegan when she was 13. And my mom did everything in her power to undermine her decision... even though she DID do everything I've just suggested. It's not what you want to hear I'm sure, but... well... to a certain degree it's mom's house, mom's rules.

    Good luck!
    love,
    mom

    Yarrow is right,
You might not be able to call yourself a vegetarian - but you are doing what is right for you. By reducing your meat intake you are doing your body good and the environment good. Be careful with fish though, they have been known to have increased amounts of chemicals (mercury, pcb's, etc...) in their bodies.

i agree do the best you can becuase every step counts. and EDUCATE your family on your choices. Education is the best weapon of defense when it comes to carnivorous harassment :)

Being vegetarian isn't some type of stereotype like calling yourself "punk" just because you dress all badass. So i agree with the rest; i do think what you call yourself, in terms of dietary lifestyle, is important. too many people are still ignorant to the fact that vegetarian means no MEAT (fish, seafood, chicken, beef, pork, anything!!) and the more it is stressed that vegetarian means VEGETABLE BASED DIET than the easier it will be to find a vegetarian dish in a restaurant or product in a grocery store that does not contain fish juice or chicken fat...which some consider "vegetarian".

Also it feels great that I AM a type of vegetarian and to all those who disagree to save one animal is better than to save none! Thankyou all ! :D
