I hope it's okay to post this here...... Just wanted to let you all know that LLL has set up a safe house in Mississippi to accept donations to distribute to Katrina victims. Packages can be shipped to: Laura Wright C/O LLL Relief Supplies PO Box 720514 Byram, Mississippi 39272-0514 Most of us here have kid stuff lying around that we no longer need. Anything can help. I just boxed up two huge boxes of stuff....clothes, toys, diapers, toiletries, etc. I just feel so helpless. I wish there was more I could do. I feel so bad for these children who have no diapers, toys or anything. Imagine your child sitting in a dirty diaper for days! Ugh.... The whole time I was packing stuff up, I was almost in tears. Poor babies! Okay...enough of my boohooing. Just wanted to let you know an alternative to sending cash, which most of us don't have!
Oh~I forgot to add.....diapers and formula are the biggies, I guess. When I was pregnant, formula companies kept sending me cans of formula. At least they are going to a good cause now instead of sitting in my pantry!
Thanks for posting this. When the storm first hit, I discussed with my 3yo how we are going to be sending a package of our toys to some of these folks. I was just waiting for the right time. Thanks for posting this. We've found the right time. We're going to pack some things up tomorrow to send on Tue. I have a bunch of cloth dipes and toys to send but no sposies or formula. Think I should even send the cloth ones though? Think they'll be able to use them?
I thought about that too, with the cloth diapers. I sent a pack of sposies that my mom gave us and I also sent some cloth. We are still using cloth, so I only sent about 4 prefolds and about 7-8 diaper covers that are too small for Bella. I also sent some diaper pins. They may not have any place to wash them now, but I suppose it would give them something, at least for a bit. It might also help people who have found shelter with friends/family, but lost all of their belongings. They might have access to water for washing, but no money to buy diapers. I really don't know......I can only imagine what hell those poor people are going through......
Rainbow, do you know if any LLL groups in Illinois are doing something like this? Sad thing, I have seen so many babies in these shelters and even on rooves, and not a one was breastfeeding. They all had bottles jammed in their mouths. When the Cholera and Dysentery strikes these poor little victims will be the first to die.
There will be about 500 people from Louisiana coming up to NH to stay. The old Air Force base in Portsmouth,NH will be there home for awhile. Some Business owned places that the businesses are no longer using will also be opening their doors to the people.
i don't know about any LLL groups up here doing anything. i was hpoing you'd chime in with more info. i looked on LLL webpage and didn't see anything. i got this info from another forum that i visit. i kinda thought the same thing when i was packing up the formula samples to send...if they were bfing, they would have one less thing to woory about, unless they dried up from lack of food and water. 9that does happen, right?) OT~I need to give up....how do you all nurse and type at the same time? I suck at it!
