Peace and Love eace: While you're here- What is your favorite thing about being a hippie? Mine is that I can be dirty and not give a shit!
That's not what being a hippie is about. If anything, you're feeding the stereotype, and that's a stereotype that I particularly hate. Being a 'hippie' is essentially about peace, love and freedom. Thinking for yourself and not judging others. Seeking truth and mind expansion. Plus 60's music is incredible!
You should put up a sign: "Please do not feed the stereotypes." With a picture of a hippie biting off someone's hand.
Aside from you yourself feeding a nasty stereotype with that manson style cross between your eyes your post seems to be hate speach.
Manson has a swastika on his forehead, not a cross. Way to fail at your low attempt for humor. And thanks for quoting only half of my post, as well as misplacing my grin. Personally, I hate hippies being stereotyped as homeless bums that don't take showers. Looks like you've never been in an argument with a neocon. I assumed this thread was for the real hippies, and not for the trolls. Peace.
You don't even know how hyprocrite you actually are, read back your own posts and you'll find you contradict yourself so badly.... Still hope one day your mind will be opened the right away
Real hippies are in their 60's according to the most objective definition of hippies. Have to agree with my fellow dutchie above here for once. If thinking for yourself and not judging others are essential things for a hippie psych piper is not doing himself a favor judging the OP's favourite thing about being a hippie. Isn't this a subjective preference after all? What being a hippie is about can differ per individual. Conforming to the label (no, they are not useless, they are just easily overused/misused) just because that's what a 'hippie' is about is the most stupid thing you could do. I rather say fuck you and roll in the mud like a pig myself anyday than be a sheep of just another sub or counterculture from the freaking former century. Edit: my favourite thing about hippies has got to be both the music and the conscious effort to not participate in the rat race.
In what way am I being a hypocrite? My mind has become significantly opened as of late, and all I have been doing lately is striving for peace, positivity, as well as realizing the ridiculousness of the system we live in. I've loathed judgment my whole life. You act like you know me, based off of only one trivial statement. Congratulations. I try not to judge others, but the fact of the matter is that it doesn't help when people who are highly intelligent and activists for truth are written off as a bunch of dirty homeless people who can't take care of themselves. I find not showering to be a superficial aspect of what the 'hippie' movement was really about. While I agree with nonconformity, I don't agree with the common stereotypes people have towards hippies. Perhaps you guys haven't talked to many people outside your group of friends, but I have. Some people can be pretty brainwashed and really harsh in their thinking, and quite honestly, that was the first thing on my mind when I made my first post in this thread. I wasn't judging OP herself. More so the reason that she gave, out of all the other more worthy reasons she could have given. Yeah, I guess I didn't word myself the right way, because a lot of people can be quick to jump on someone when they see the word 'hate'. Now, I know it's more hip for you to gang up on me rather than understand where I'm coming from, but I'd rather busy myself with something else.
The hippie movement may not have been about getting dirty and say fuck you in the first place but she was just stating her and asking for our favourite aspects. If you don't dig her choice than that is your problem my friend. Hippies and hippie sympathisers are not all in it for the same reason as you. You better deal with that fact.
Also, FYI, Ranger's post in this thread is easily one of the most hateful things I've read. But you know, I guess it's hip to hate Christians, so of course you're going to let that one slide. Does buying a tie-dye shirt automatically make someone a hippie, too? That's sort of where I'm coming from. There's MORE to the hippie movement than that.
I thought your reply to rangers post here was good enough. Personally I found it too nonsensical to take seriously. I also dislike that avatar by the way but don't see why I would make a big deal out of it.
Well, it's part of the site, and I'm not the one who designed it! hah I didn't expect people to be so uptight here, though. After coming out of an argument with a judgmental and stubborn neocon, I was hoping people would agree with me in terms of where I was coming from. I apologize for any misunderstandings.
I don't think the op really meant her post to be taken so seriously.. And Americans are too clean, and we use too many chemicals to stay that clean. I don't think it's really fair to say that not bathing often perpetuates the lazy dirty hippie stereotype when in fact it could easily be used as a form of protest against the industrial-military complex
That's actually an interesting way of looking at it. But then again, you could just choose to go all organic and bathe with natural ingredients. I would if only I was the one buying things around this house. I still shower with supermarket stuff. Although I do choose not to use shampoo at all. Anyway, I hope everyone's lightened up by now, myself included. This world is way too full of misunderstandings as it is.
By the way take a fucking shower it makes us all look bad. Once you get blood poisoning from a body fungus that could have easily been prevented by regular hygiene and blame it on being a hippie then you may have to rethink your position. Stay Brown, Rev J
