My name is mary and a friend told me about this site. i am here for a different reason that bein a fan of rap My brother was a fan of eminem and he started listening to him 2 years ago. He was a big fan and he liked his message. he started to get into fights. he used to get picked on. and people gave him a little more respect but it probably was fear he started changing and hangin out with people he would not be hanging out with usually. I was worried because i though he started to do drugs and i still think think so he was a straight A+ student. he was really smart and was on the honor roll. he spent sooo much time with projects for science fairs and looking through his telescope at the sky. now he's going to jail. he got into a big fight at a partyy he should not have been at in the first place. one of the guys in the stupid group lost an eye. he was acting like a stupid thug all the way and even when i was sometimes when i see his old stuff i cant stop crying. people blame marilyn manson when a crazy sad kid shoots his class mates but no one is allowed to blame rap when people who like rap are violent because then thats racist.? Rap isnt innocent. How can people say it is when it is telling you that being a bad person is fun. thats what i think i want to know what you think and to get to know you so i can know what kind of people you are. thats why im here - mary
i understand where your coming from completely the same thing happened to a lot of ppl that were really close to me. my younger brother in fact has started with the whole gangbanger thing and has been selling drugs frighting trouble with cops all of it. its sad to see someone that was a so called good kid and start fucking their whole lives up for wat to be popular or cool or for watever reason. however you cannot blame music any kind no matter wat the message because music is not a how to manual for life and ppl should know that. music is an artistic expressions of thoughts and emotions music is meant to make u feel a certain way not act it. i dont think that anyone can blame anything for the situations ppl end up in except themselves and sometimes ppl just how to have life kick the shit out of them before they learn i know im coming off a little harsh but im just being honest. just tell your brother how you feel and theres really nothing else you can do but pray. eventually he will figure out that this lifestyle is not one to be desired and anyone that has actually lived it and not pretended to will tell u the same thing. peace
Evil is a human perception, what I see as 'evil' is completly different to sombody else. You have demonized rap because of what happened to your brother. Eminem didn't point a gun to his head & order him to behave this way. He did this all by his own free will. Its not all bad, eminems music gave him the courage to stand up to the motherfuckers who were picking on him. I was in that position, I had self-esteem problems. When I started listening to rap I realsied I don't have to take shit from anybody. I learned that I don't have to conform to what everybody else wants me to do, I can do whatever the fuck I want. Now my life isn't fucked up, I haven't been in a serious fight, I not going to jail. Everything is fine.
My brother wanted to be a 'gangsta' too being influenced by rap crap and hiphop and he ended up in jail. violence and disrespect to women is NOT the way to go! Peace and love is the way, man! everyone has their own taste in music i can understand that but i think it's stupid to want to be 'gangsta' and look up to rappers that are violent, kill people and disrespect women.
Oh man. I deleted my 2GB hip-hop collection, because I realized my entire hip-hop collection is nothing but violent and degrading to women. Especially the Tribe album The Love Movement.
rappers aren't even trying to be "gangsta", so why would u try to pose that off of them?? when you see 50 cent promoting vitamin water, and jay-z promoting hp computers, and stuff like that, how do you even try to be a gangsta when they themselves aren't trying to be gangsters...there trying to change for the good while us listeners try to be more like what they used to be and change for hte worse jus my 50 cents...
yeah well eminem doesnt tell you to be a gangster , or a thug, or do drugs, and even when it seems like he may be telling u too, really listen to it, he is either joking, or giving you a message through it , and if your brother was a A+ student he should be smart enough to realize that, and yes, some rap isnt innocent, such as the ying yang twins, lil jon, and D4L to name a few, they are guilty, guilty of killing hip hop lmao.......but a lot of hip hop tries to tell kids to stay away form that typa shit, and alot of it is to try to teach these kids lessons, so they will know what the consequences of their actions will be if they follow in the footsteps of these rappers, if your brother is going to be that heavily influenced by the music, then thats is not raps problem. That is like saying kids who play grand theft auto and go out and steal cars and shoot people up, that they can blame it on the video game. Its not the games fault, the kid should be smart enough not to make those decisions. And if your brother is doing drugs, make sure he just keeps it to weed!
I agree rap is violent and rappers are not the best role models out there. I am sorry to say this, but what happened was your brother's fault and no1 else's. We all have a choice. We have the choice dress the way we want, listen to what we like, act like we want and take music as seriously as we want. You brother chose to listen to eminem and make him into his role model. It was his decision to take everything seriously and that's what ultimately landed him jail. I like rap, I like hip hop but that doesn't make me act different ways or think of me as something that I am not. People need to understand what is real and what is not and they need to know the boundaries of music. No offense when ur brother started listened to music, he should have know that it was just that: music. Instead, he started fantasizing about becoming what the songs described and follow that idea. This could have (and has happened) with anything that see. It's happened with violent movies, violent news, violent videogames, violent music (not only rap) etc. We live in a violent world and if you don't believe me then just turn on your tv on the news. You're gonna see people murdered, raped, tortured, kidnapped etc. Blaming acts of violence on music is a little bit hypocritic when it's always in our face since we are little. That's my thought on that.
Word. I find much rap and hip hop to have a very positive message actually but it's all in how you interpret it and weeding through the bs. Rap is a scapegoat just like anything else that is.
People should make their own decisions, and if they let some music make those decisions for them, then they deserve what they get. You're brother's a bitch if he allowed rap, especially Eminem's bitch ass, to influence his decisions in the way you described. And you say people never blame rap? People used to blame Tupac and Ice-T all the time for violence against cops, which was retarded, on the basis of the first part of my post.
well, your brother cant control himself, its not raps fault, its your brothers... I know sometimes its hard to believe that he would never do anything like that so you blame something else, but you gotta know that he did it, it was his fault... not raps...
It wasnt rap that put ur brother in jail , it was his own actions. Rap is just the mediam to share your thoughts and emotions its only a poem put to beat. Your brother listend to music that he felt a connection to , something that spoke to his soul. Isnt that what music is , the voice of our souls? Im sorry ur brother got into eminem and now is in jail.. but it isnt becuz of eminem . Its cuz of your brother. Dont blame music. There is rap that has great messages of peace, comminity togetherness, and love. Its a shame ur brother didnt choose to listen to that rap, maybe then he would have turned out a saint, and ud have a diffrent out look.
Rap? You can't just blame a genre of music for your brother's choices. Look, people blame music (particularly punk, metal and hip hop), movies, video games, the media... you name it, for their violent content and their supposed "influences" on people's actions, and it's not going to stop. But, what you're going to realize sooner or later is that hip hop did not 'possess' your brother or 'make him' do anything at all - that was his stupid choice. No offense, but blaming a genre of music isn't going to solve anything. Besides, I listen to hip-hop, crust punk, goregrind, gangsta rap, death metal (plus other supposedly 'threatening / non threatening' genres of music), etc... and guess what? I've never even been in a fist fight. So yeah... it's all in the PERSON, and that PERSON is responsible for his own ACTIONS
For a smart guy, your brother is pretty stupid. Also, he obviously hasn't heard every Eminem song. Or maybe he did but he wasn't listening. (hint: it's in the song "The Way I Am") Also, for crying out loud stop blaming the media for violent behavior. Your brother was just really impressionable; it's not Eminem's fault. I understand that perhaps he was just taking out his frustration but he should have controlled himself. He needed to know what was right and wrong. Like everyone else in here I've been listening to rap, playing violent video games, watching violent movies, and watching anime porn and I still get good grades and I've never had to face a cop except when I drove in the wrong lane.
