can anyone truly explain hell? i grew up with a preacher as a father, so ive heard about hell all my life, however, noone can answer my question of what hells overall point is. i know hell is supposed to be the ultimate punishment, but, to agree with this, u first have to analyze punishment itself. the whole point of punishment is to to correct undesired behavior with negative consequences.ie, if a child runs in the street and its mother scolds it, the reason is so said child will not run into the street again. However, if hell is eternal, you will never have a chance to correct your mistakes, therefor, hell is pointless..........
hell is not pointless. The church depends on our fear of it to get converts! Actually, yes, I completely agree with you. I've said it before myself, there is no point to that suffereing, no lesson to be learned, thus, it is simply sadistic of God. Fortunately, I don't believe in such a God that would create a hell for the majority of his "beloved children."
I don't believe in Hell either, as such. I guess the thought is that you will be in a lake of fire and it will never stop burning. So I imagine your flesh will never burn away -- it will always look perfectly normal. But it will hurt as though it is burning. Forever. And you'll never get used to it; you won't lose your mind and think it feels good instead, either. So I guess your mind will have to be reset every few seconds. So really you'll only consciously experience a few moments of pain instead of an eternity, because you won't remember the previous three seconds of pain when your mind is reset. What I'm saying is that I agree: It's a silly made-up story intended to scare people into submission. Perhaps there is a transcendant plane of reality where archetypes exist, though, and one's bad deeds manifest into their worst nightmares.
hmm.. I'd say in Bible it simpy means to ged rid of something that is not God, so God does not contradict with anything (as I understood it) But I'm not sure how it should work, my best imabe is from that book 1984 (the third part)
