    Hey

I don't really smoke point, at all. A few months ago, I was with a reliable, older, long term pot user who is a family member of mine, and he let me take a hit off his pipe (the strain I believe was Kush.) It was my first time smoking. At first I felt relaxed, but within about 3 minutes, out of nowhere, my heart began to race and thump very hard in my chest, and I felt very nauseoous and gagged, and it takes A LOT for me to gag or want to throw up. My heart raced for about the next 40 minutes and eventually went back to normal.

However, I get very fast heart rates normally; I have an arrthymia naturally which causes my heart to go over 100. At the time I smoked I was taking a daily small dosage of a beta blocker (which lowers heart rate and blood pressure) to combat my normal arrithmiya. I don't take those pills anymore.
I was wondering though, was the heart racing normal for first time use, and is it perhaps not safe for me to smoke since I have an underlying heart issue?

Greetings. Ok, heart problems are something, I am sure you already know, not to fuck around with. It sound to me like two things happened. First of all, smoking pot can constrict the blood flow causing a higher blood preasure. So, right there, not a vary good idea if you are trying to lower or at least keep your heart rate low. Secondly it sounds like you had a bit of an anxiety attack. Also, something that can happen with smoking pot. If you have an anxiety attack while smoking then it will only compound it. However, to me it does not sound like you smoked that much. I understand the whole heart thing but I agree with the first poster. Something that will not hurt at any time. Ask your doctor at your next visit on how it will affect your problems, it's not illegal to ask. Knowledge is power man. Good Luck.

I met someone who had a similar situation as you. They smoked a little more than you, and also had an underlying arrhythmia and had a similar reaction. They presented to the emergency room after vomitting. After a whole bunch of cardiac tests, it was determined that nothing was wrong with them, and they were told, as the other posters said, a combination of anxiety and thc effects were the cause. cannabis increases blood pressure and heart rate. Anxiety will bring out these effects much more.

take it slow, make sure you are with someone you trust if you decide to do it again and listen to your body.

When your heart was racing were you feeling uncomfortable, like your freaking out? Or where you feeling good and stoned, and just happend to notice your heart rate. If it was the first one up there than you really don't have to worry. It would have been a panic attack. Durring a panic attack, whether drug induced or not isn't really that dangerous, although it is pretty unpleasant. You should try breathing techniques and find ways to relax yourself. Like, if I smoke allot of particularly potent weed and start to feel bad, I'll just lie down on the closest comfortable thing, like a bed or a couch and take deep breaths. It also helps to put on head phones and listen to relaxing music. Oh, and if your experienceing the second situation i said above, like your heart rate was way up, but other than that you were fine, than that might not be good, it could have something to do with your heart condition. One time I used a heart rate moniter when I was high just out of curriosity, and it was no more than 5 bpm above my normal resting rate. Im pretty fucking baked, and there is a humongus distracting storm outsite, so some of this post may sound weird.

**i just actually read your post and it sounds like you did have a panic attack. And kush is fucking crazy for the first time you got stoned, that is potent shit. In my case I started smoking pot with the people I hung out with, we were all sort of new and had no connections. Man how things change.

My heart races also when I'm high.
I remember either seeing or reading somewhere that weed makes your heart rate increase.
I'm actually on an anti depressant that for some reason makes my heartbeat quicker than normal people, so when I smoke, my heart really gets going.
Sometimes I don't notice it, but when I do, its like my heart is a little sore and tired from beating so fast. So I take some deep breaths and try to think about something else.
