Sometimes I read in the papers about people living 100+ and naturally a reporter asks them how did they do it? What did they eat?

I remember one guy saying that all he eats is bacon fat and drinks red wine! (Aint makin this up, at least thats verbatim what I read) Im sure there are other things in his diet but thats what he mentioned.
Another guy said he used to smoke over 10 cigars throughout the day and celebrated his 100 bday with one.

There are other crazy shiet too.

Ever wonder that the biological clock has almost nothing (or very little) to do with what you eat, but rather when you go you go.

My moms (rip, was a skilled nurse) she told me the body has its own clock, and barring any intererence like carcinogens, etc... it goes when it goes.

    Any thoughts?

no, i think there are definitely things you can do to yourself that screws your body up. genetics plays a role, but maintenance is very important.

The people youre talking about, if the stories are true, could have lived longer, and BETTER, if they had taken care of themselves

Genetics is there and we cant deny it, but this isnt FATE, its a potential. Obviously if you look after your body and take all the care you can those diseases either wont hit you or wont hit as hard, youll add years on, and even if you dont your quality of life will be so much more. Its important not to say "wow, they lived to 100 theyre a success" because we dont know what their inner potential was

The connection between what goes in and what happens to your body is too obvious to shrug off with a few lucky people who seemingly defied the odds. They were just blessed with very tolerant bodies! Everyones body is different. The thing they have in common is needing to be looked after to thrive. I say, dont take the risk in assuming youre going to be one of the lucky few!

Red wine in moderation can be healthy, and cigars aren't usually inhaled, so they aren't nearly as bad a habit as smoking cigarettes. I think there are worse things than bacon fat, too, like processed sugars.
