That's a rather ignorant and merit-less argument you make. While there are many people who recieve welfare and truly need it and use it properly, like everything else there are people who don't. Your comment shows a true lack of understanding and frame of reference, in as far as abolishing such a social program would likely hurt us more than help us. If you're truly concerned about your money, then stop propping up people who would rather funnel your money into being international gangster fearmongers, and support putting money into the schools and other social services that are likely to improve the quality of life for not just "them," but for everyone. As one of the world's dumbest nations (on paper), and richest, we owe it to ourselves and the future well-being of this great nation to equip ourselves intellectually, financially, and most of all, sensibly. Do you want war to be the only way this country can ever make any type of perceived progress?

and do you think that the world's wealthiest nation runs itself, with no money?

how do you think the debts of the last 8 years will be paid off?

and the idea that welfare is taking all your money--oh wait, unless you mean CORPORATE welfare, well then i'm with ya, but you're backing the wrong guy if you want to eliminate THAT

no, i do not think taxes will go up for every working american

and i don't give a crap about your real estate profiteering

    [sorry]

    This is so great!
I was watching that Colbert/Stewart election thing that started at 10 PM
And John Stewart just says, "I would like to announce that at 11:00 at Eastern Standard Time, the president of the United States is Barack Obama" [I just got that from watching it online]
    http://www.thedailyshow.com/full-episodes/index.jhtml?episodeId=209493
    it's at 42:59

Well, I don't really remember that, because I was looking at the polls with someone next to me. But me and some other people were so happy =D .. we were jumping on the couches. and yes, I know some people do say that race shouldn't be a matter, but it's just remarkable that african americans have gone so far to earn their rights, and they now have a president. One of the girls that was cheering with us is african/african american/whatever you want to say. She must have been so damn happy

This morning at breakfast, some guy walks in and starts screaming that change has come. hahaha

    I'm just happy :D

wow, so far up your own ass you don't understand the significance of electing a black man to the US presidency.

Symbols count. This country has been divided. People used to own other people not 200 years ago.

I think you have a calling of being a speech writer;) Very beautifully orchestrated!

I wavered back and forth through the election. i always knew I would vote for Obama and not McCain. However I got a bit freaked out about him. Reading so much conspiracy theory stuff really sent me down a path of doom and gloom and paranoia. There are things that I have question marks about in regards to Obama.....but that's true of each and every other human being. I had to abolish all those fears because whatever will be will be, its Divine Order.

I wrap this with love and light. This is so exciting. All morning I keep breaking out into tears of excitement. What a beautiful time to be alive!

I hope people will continue to be inspired and that our national community will move forth in service and healing.

As a single female with no children, yeah, my life is now screwed. I am considered middle class because I make less than 100k and more than 12k. Guess who is paying for those who cannot?? Me. Obama isn't going to tax any of his special interest groups like those who helped him raise the millions of dollar for his campaign. By the way, where do the rest of those fund go? Anyone know? Ya think he's going to give it back to the people that gave it to him? Maybe he will go and use it to pay for the welfare programs instead of taxing the rest of us. Yeah, right. He'll use it like all the other politicians out there. If you want to get rid of the government hypocrisy and corruption, get rid of special interest groups and lobbyists. Fact of the matter is there loads of money passed under the tables in D.C. Been going on since the 1st lobbyist group entered back in the early 1800's.

I don't care about color of skin. That's not what is important. If I had my choice of men of african descent to be president, I would have rather had Colin Powell. Now he was a great man.

I just don't agree with the socialistic programs and ideas Obama has brought to the table. Simple as that.

Anyone over the age of 25 or maybe 30 can't really comprehend that the younger generation in this country is almost completely color blind. I'm 22 years old and I've never known black people as anything other than people.

I grew up in black social structure and I'm white, all of my friends when I was an adolescent and young teenager were black. So I'm not talking out of my ass here. I actually TOOK a lot of shit from older black people who felt anger to me as a white skinned person for trying to be a member of their culture.

Being black means nothing to me. Anyone can me a member of so called "black culture" these days. And by that culture I'm referring to the modern urban, hip-hop, rap or whatever you want to call it culture. True original black culture will always remain 100% to the black people in the past that cultivated it and originated it, because at that point there was a clear divide between black people and all other people, which had to do with hardcore racism.

These are NOT those times. Everyone I know around my age and in my generation doesn't even SEE that divide anymore. We're simply JUST people, culture is culture, it's not even a race thing anymore, anyone can assimilate in to the current "black" culture. The more old people, and ALL people not just black or white, continue to talk about this great divide between black and white people, it will exist for them. Maybe it will always exist for all you old fuckers, because for you it was a very real thing that you had to deal with every day.

These days racism is completely different, still exists, but is completely different. I don't care if anyone wants to hold onto the culture values of whatever or where ever they are from, but labeling people black or white or anything else just continues to seperate them. We are HUMAN BEINGS, thats what we are, simply that. We all come from different cultural backgrounds but we are still ALL HUMAN BEINGS.

To me, the significance of him being the first black president is lost completely, because to me that seems like a completely natural thing. I don't see it as weird or fantastic, just natural, same as if he were white or any other race. And thats because the world I have always existed in has been as tolerable to black people as any other minority. Which isn't to say they're completely equals. But thats ALWAYS the way it's going to be for ANY minority, and that goes for minorities outside of race completely, lake say sub-cultural groups and movements which are descriminated against and judged in the same way a lot of black people are. As long as you are a minority of some kind, you will never get everything you want because the majority has the power, always. They have hte numbers so they decide whats what.

All I'm saying, is whether your black white or any other fucking race, you're just a human being, and any other label just seperates you from all your human brothers and sisters. You want unity, you want equality, then start thinking from a HUMAN viewpoint, instead of a BLACK one or a WHITE one or from whatever culture or race you're from.

I understand that all black people probably feel a victory, and thats great, and fine. I'm not trying to take that feeling away from anyone, but as long as people continue to say black people are black and white people are white and fucking whoever is whoever, the divide between all of those cultures will remain. We need to wake the fuck up and realize that we're just HUMANS, all of us, and we need to think about things from the HUMAN viewpoint. If you think, I'm black, I'm separate from all that aren't black, my brothers and sisters are only black, you're limiting yourself and continuing that divide.

Instead, just think, I'm human, all of my brothers and sisters are human, everyone is my brother and sister. Then you will achieve unity.

I cant wait until he gets into office and actually starts running this country, because then all of you who praise him will see the huge mistake that was made by the American public. And when the next election comes 4 years later, lets vote for Juan Valdez and make a bad situation even worse.

You mean the debts of the last 60 years, right?

No welfare to individuals OR businesses. Work for yourself, and if your business fails, so be it. Thousands fail every day. I dont care how big your corporation is. If it fails, try again.

I wrote to every politician I could find, telling them NOT to vote for any bailout. Believe me, Republicans are ALL pissed about that crap! One senator that has won by landslides in previous elections barely kept hs seat because he voted for the bailout.

The government could be run with 20% of the revenue it brings in. We just have to eliminate the huge bureaucracy that has been building since FDR. Under Obama, it only has the potential to get BIGGER. The responsibilities of the federal government are spelled out in article 1 of the constitution. Anything that goes beyond what is spelled out there is wasteful spending and needs to be cut. Our taxes should be less than 1/2 of what they are now.

Welfare will NEVER give us positive progress. What did Americans do before welfare (when this country was efficient, and easily the greatest country in the world)? WORK. If people would get off their lazy asses, this country could become great again. DO NOT pay ANYONE to sit on their asses!!
