    yea i heard about that today on the radio. it's about time he got caught up with the times. matter just doenst 'disappear'...i've always thought it was converted into light and energy in those huge beams you see comming out of either end of the black hole.

    What beams do you speak of? I know shit all about science, but the whole idea of a black hole is that that singularity at the core of the "hole" is so dense that it creates a gravitational field so strong that nothing, not even light can escape.

    1. Hawking never said matter disappeared. He said information disappeared (or, rather, couldn't be extracted).

    2. Nothing comes out of a black hole. You are speaking about accretion disks here.
