Just curious, a friend of mine says he has another friend of his that owns or has a real Lamborghini?! As far as your experience, have you ever rode or driven or been inside an “exotic car” before? Such as Ferraris? Lamborghini? Maseratis? Or Bugatti? What was the experience like being inside one of these cars? And also what was top speed? Or how fast did you go in it if you have been in one before? Thanks!!!!

I rode in a Ferrari Dino once around the race track at Lime Rock in Connecticutt. Dad was there as a reporter for the races, I was along for the ride of my life!!!

To address one of the questions I asked: Top Speed? Or How many “MPH” were you going if you remember that? Every Ferrari has its own top speed so I’m not sure how fast a “Dino” would be able to go? Thanks.

old guy, retired ceo of some cargo ship company, like apl but i think one of the others, assembled the vilage's fire trucks, among other things for a hobby,
used to stop and give me a ride when he saw me walking into town. he always wore overalls and usually drove a less then year old rolls.
one year he had an xke instead, but he went back to rolls silver ghost after that. he had money, obviously, but he was like it was no big thing.

never owned anything besides old panel wagons and pickups myself. in 72 i had a 49 ford panel, would have counted as a classic i guess.
as for boats myself, i had a many second hands, 22ft deep vee work boat, lived on, was gonna rig for fishing, went broke instead.
i dock crewed out of casual labor one time on a tanker like that, would have loved to have sailed on her, galley sure fed super well.
(was a sister ship to that one that went down and made a really big spill, off the coast of alaska sometime in the 80s)

The top speed we got to on the track that day was 150 mph...

I have also been in a Jaguar sedan going 150 mph on the Belgian freeway, the cops did not bother trying to chase us, they just waited for us at a gas station and the driver them off (about $500 US) to avoid the ticket. I never was silly enough to get in a car with him again.

I’ve personally developed a bond with Rolls-Royce. I think if given the option of what I would use for legitimate transportation. I always saw myself being a “Rolls-Royce Advocate/Supporter”.

Yes matey, but whilst tankers don't do more than about 40 MPH (about 22 Knots) the stopping distance is a whole lot less than a fully loaded tanker - from full ahead to dead stop is EIGHTEEN MILES !!!

I worked at a Yamaha shop millennia ago and the owner had a De Tomaso Pantera with a 351 "Cobra Jet" Ford engine, top speed 158 mph.
One of my coworkers got to drive it, but the owner wrecked it before I even got to sit in it.

The most exotic car I ever drove was a friend's 1969 428 "Cobra Jet" Mercury Cyclone with Ram Air.
Top speed 132 mph. The only stock car that was officially faster it at the drag strip was a Hemi Road Runner by 0.37 seconds.

When you punched the four barrel you could literally watch the gas gauge fall.

There is a reason for that. The fuel pickup and it's sensor for fuel level was in the front of the tank. During acceleration the fuel sloshes to the back of the tank, fuel level looks like it's going down rapidly.

I'm not saying that car got great MPG, it didn't, but the fuel gauge issue was more than likely what you were seeing.

Does learning how to drive on a Land Rover on the island of Anguilla count as exotic?

That was the first time I drove a 'car.' Royal Navy type with the snorkel :) A troop carrier with a canvas covered back with two facing bench seats.

What a cranky transmission! Steering required the strength of two men at least it was a beast on the dirt roads and sandy beaches.

It was something like above... you can read about the British in Anguilla in a book called "Under An English Heaven."

There's a guy around here that has one of those Land Rovers. He takes it to the import car show we go to most years. He drove it around Africa way back when and always shows up with a mounted huge map showing everywhere he's driven it. It's outfitted with a luggage rack, bed, stove, sink?, jerrycans, etc. And it has a front and rear power take off. The front has a mount for a blender to mix drinks while on safari!

Here's the only picture I can find of it....
The tag on the blender and mount say Land Blender in the style of the grill tag, so I assume it was some kind of option.

What makes this truly exotic is the blender attachment for serious camping and relaxation purposes. :)

Nothing like the Ferraris and the Lambos unfortunately, unless the video game Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit counts. The late 80's Toyota Supra Mk.3 is about the closest I've ever gotten:
    widebody-mk3-toyota-supra-turbo-2.jpg

One of my friends, who has since passed away, used to own one. It was a sweet ride. 3 liter engine and an automatic shifter. Some performance tuning done to it. The details escape me, but it was properly fast. He once demonstrated to me on a long straightway, how he was able to hit 200 kilometers (125 miles) per hour with it. Good thing that the cops weren't there that night, or he would've lost his license for sure. He also let me drive it a few times, was a very responsive car. My only time actually driving something with an automatic gearbox.

Anyway, this friend of mine later sadly caught throat cancer and didn't make it. Before he passed, he liquidated his assets and the car was sold to a new owner. Haven't seen it since.

As far as the true exotics go, I've seen some up close, including a vintage Ferrari F40, but they were always display vehicles that the owners didn't want touched, so I've never even been inside one, let alone driven one. I'd need to win the lottery to actually afford my own.
