    in a restaurant?

I have done it in coffee shops and bars and never really thought twice about it, but I feel like I'm invading/being invaded if it happens at a restaurant.

    Thoughts?

no, where I grew up someone would think you were trying to mug them. haha

I'm sure I could do that if it was some younger guy... if it was a female, no chance these woman out here are bitchy and rude.... I think it's going to be hard to make friends, unless it's a lesbian bar or something, I'm sure everyone would be inviting.

there is a restaurant in San Francisco that planned is that way. So if you want to eat you have to share.

    Red,

What would you do if you were in a restaurant and I, yours truly, came and sat at your table? I bet you'd feel pretty honored.

Sounds like fun if that's the way it's planned but if it's not, if feels weird.

I've had people join my table. I could see them squirming.

No. If i am sitting on my own I am doing that on purpose.
I shouldn't feel obligated to have to strike up a conversation with anybody.
My friends and I have mingled with other GROUPS of people before...that can be fun.
But one on one - no thanks.

Ugh, not in a restaurant I wouldn't. Pubs and cafes are mostly fine unless you're deep in a conversation with someone, but in restaurants.. I want to eat in peace and enjoy the company of the people I'm there with, so stay away strangers :p

people in bars and people in restaurants behave in an entirely different fashion
bars and coffee shops are set up for socializing. hence bars that usually go around and games and pool tables.
restaurants are private with table dividers and waiting lists, and everyone sitting back to back. I mean who wants to watch some strange fucker eat while he watches you?

Well, it all depends on the restaurant and the situation really.

In the UK people would probably not be as receptive towards you joining their table so much, but over in Holland I used to do it now and again in some of the places I used to eat, but that was because they were very popular place to eat and seats at tables were very limited. People generally didn't mind so much then.

Used to do it all the time in India, but again there it's a different mentality.

Generally speaking though, I prefer to eat alone. I donot view eating as a social activity, and prefer to be totally alone, or in the company of close friends.

I hate eating in restaurants in the west, I hate the whole thing where you have someone coming and serving you who gets paid shit wages and they address you like you are royalty or something. I hate siting alone and eating if there are people watching me.

But in India eating out is a far more widespread and accepted social decorum, so over there I liked it, and also the food was fucking out of this world.

Yeah, a couple of times. I went to France as a teen and people there did it to me all the time, and I really liked it.
