Have you ever eaten meat on accident?

The other day I was at my friend's place and we were making supper. I ended up having a quiche which at the time I thought was vegetarian. About half way through I found a chunk of ham in it, at first it didn't really sink in that I'd just eaten a little piggy but when it did it really upset me. There wasn't a lot of ham in it (which is the reason I guess that I didn't notice sooner) but I still feel really dirty about it.
I've been vegetarian for around two years now and I'm sure I've eaten meat unknowingly at least once before, but I feel so guilty.
Has anyone else eaten meat by mistake?

And this wasn't one of those one inch in diameter quiches this was bout five or six inches diameter.

    Aye.

I once ordered a pizza, with no meat and no cheese, from Papa John's. Turns out the workers there really didn't like me.

I got this nice red pizza with no cheese (yay!) but I take a bite into it ... lo, and behold, the fucking sons o' bitches put pepperoni under the sauce. I was drunk, so I didn't even notice until sometime between the second and third bite, I was just like "yum yum pizza I'm hungry" hahah.

I was mucho pissed. But I got over it. That is, as soon as I got done bitching them out over the phone. :$

I seriously haven't.... I have come across meat hidden in dishes that were supposedly veggie, but I never actually bit into it....and that's only because I pick at my food for a half hour before eating it lmao.

I pretty much mangle everything before putting it into my mouth.... I never listened to my dad when he told me not to play with my food.

Anyway yeah, one time I went to this mexican restaurant which actually has veggie and vegan options... and I ordered these vegan asparagus filled enchiladas.... but they must have given me the wrong order, or something because when I mangled it as I always do.... The thing was filled with chicken. They took it back for me and gave me something new.

Yay for being a picky eater!

That's so freaking mean. I would have flipped out on them too.
I really don't understand what goes through peoples heads when they decide to do things like that (spitting in your food, putting meat in it). It's all just a big waste of time :(

Last time I was in Vegas, I ordered tofu & broccoli at a chinese restaurant. It comes and I put one of the tofu cubes in my mouth and bite down. They had stuffed the tofu with a prawn. Blecchhh!!! I couldn't make myself swallow it; I had to spit it out. Nowhere on the menu did it say anything about there being shellfish in the tofu, and the manager just didn't seem to grasp the concept that someone with an allergy could sue them. They did make me something else, however.

heh I don't think I have, I've eaten some byproducts by mistake quite a few times. one time I was at wafflehouse and ordered these potatoes and there was a big disgusting chunk of ham in them...and we had just watched the prequel to the silence of the lambs (whatever that movie is titled...). For some reason that combination of things made it about 10 times worse.

People playing with other peoples' food is unethical and can be downright DANGEROUS. People have all sorts of allergies and this sort of thing should be illigal. Why is when when you do something for ethics, it doesn't "count" to food industries as being serious? Mistakes I can understand, but that pizza story is appalling and they should have been fired. Who says you are not highly allergic to meat processing chemicals or that is is against your religion to eat meat? (I hold my beliefs about meat as close as some people hold their religions)
My own experience- I ordered PLAIN beans from Taco Hell and they put red sauce and meat in it. I tasted it as soon as it hit my mouth (the beef was in tiny fragments) even though the red sauce is supposed to be vegetarian. I spit it out immediately and wanted to throw up. I always check my order there because those people are the epitome of "incompetent" but the sauce was dark and I was told it was veg. I hate (auce) it anyway because it is gross. ALWAYS check your food. It is lame we have to do it, but if you are stranded and get anything fast food, be polite and check it!

I was at a party in Thailand this winter and I don't speak Thai and they didn't speak English so there was no means of communications and they fed me meat. You can't say no to such hospitality. Or, well, I didn't know how to say no without being rude.

My school cafeteria is a real bitch when it comes to this. See, they now label all the foods they have there, but they often label them wrong. Their marinara sauce is vegan, for example, and usually they label the sauces "marinara sauce" and "marinara sauce with meat." Once they had the meat sauce, but put the wrong label on it, and I didn't notice until I started eating because I'd piled other stuff on top of it.

Their breakfast foods have the same problem. They'll often stick cheese in things that don't usually have cheese, without warning you. And after being reassured that their breakfast potatoes were vegetarian, one day I see the ingredients to find that they are made with bacon fat.

The most recent problem we've had was a broth issue. Their vegetable soup has always had tomato-vegetable broth. It looks like it, it tastes like it, it says so on the ingredients, etc. Recently I -know- they switched to beef broth, they didn't change the "vegan" label, and I wound up nearly throwing up.

There is a public comments area, though, so they usually do something when one of us bitches them out.
