I'm wondering how many of our members have been laid off recently, or stopped working for reasons related to the economy.

    If so, sign in...

i havent yet, however it looks like long term it may be inevitable..i figure my paycheck is off by about a 1/3 right now,its the slowest i have seen work since the early 80's.

im making all the preparations i can now,and have been for a while..

this is going to be a long bumpy ride to the bottom for us all..

Hey HHB, yes, the worst is coming, and soon! The layoffs are just starting.

I figure they only need a few more margin calls and banks & other financial institutions will start falling like a house of cards. Credit will become a thing of the past! If you ain't got the cash (get the wheelbarrow ready!), you won't get shit.

Love your new Avatar, HHB! :)

One of my friends bros had a mortgage related job in va beach, and got laid off a couple months ago. He had to rent his townhouse and move to cali to stay with friends.

Uh, that is a number I'm not hearing ANYONE say publically!!!

Half a million people dropped out of the job market IN JUST ONE MONTH!

That means they no longer are getting any unemployment benefits!

I think they are minimizing/hiding that number so that ppl aren't aware of JUST HOW BAD IT IS OUT THERE!

I bet the REAL unemployment rate in the USA is far above 10%, but they'll never tell you that!

I got laid off twice in 2007, but never due to a company downsizing or folding. Just relocation or their operations.

Edit: They remained in the USA(midwest).

My dad got laid off years ago (12, I think, I was 9). I work a job with an insanely high turnover rate, so I think my job is pretty secure.

The drought brought an end to my greenhouse job. It hit my employer so bad she's not sure she's going to plant anything for this coming summer.

Having just got back from overseas I am on the dole. I am a responsible worker, always ensuring that my resume and personal appearance are in tip top shape for the few jobs I actually want to apply for, then to make up my quota, I am always careful to ensure I apply for jobs I have no chance in hell of getting, and for extra security, send off a grammatically incorrect resume with expired references. The government is a good employer and I don't see myself being laid off soon.

Our economy is doing excellent. There are plenty of jobs. Actually, there are more jobs than we (the Dutch people) can fill ourselves, so we are getting lots of Turkish, Maroccan, Portugese, Polish and other people from Eastern European countries to fill those jobs.

Nope, hours are up and so is pay.

A friend got laid off recently, but he was drinking on the job so it's tough to blame the economy.
