I am new 2 this forum and I am curious to know if anyone would be sincerely interested in helping to create a beautiful place unlike anything this materialistic world has ever seen. You see I have a piece of property in the UP of Michigan right on the Menominee river in the deep woods away from civilization. Currently the place has power and a well along with a small 3bdrm 2ba house sitting on an acre of land with the adjacent properties available for possible future expansion. I have realized a long time ago that I was not happy living the materialistic american dream and have thought about intentional communities as a realistic life for me but I am not interested in the BS of control or conforming to someone elses ideas of how things aught 2 be. I am looking for kind loving freespirited people who want to break away and create a place for gatherings of the tribes and other such meetings where we can all feel free and express ourselves as we see fit. So this beautiful land is just waiting to be put to good use and I am interested in entertaining any ideas anyone has or if you are interested in joining me drop a line. I am currently in UT and getting ready to head to CA for a minute to chase a dream. Hope to hear from all of you 10000 small animals huddled together in a dark cave and grooving to a pict.

Nope, haven't tried Salvia yet. I was around it about a month ago at a party though. Thought about trying it, but didn't feel comfortable enough. I didn't know anything there very well.

    Cool idea gandalalfdzi!:sunglasse

Tamee, when you do decide to try salvia make sure you have a trip sitter because it can be pretty intense! I did it alone and nearly lost it because I lost all sense of who I was and didn't know where I was. I found it to be enjoyable if you have someone sober to help you along the way.

I have a little bit more than a 1/4th bag of salvia that I need to get rid of. If you want to send my $4 to cover shipping I wil send it to ya priority mail. Just a thought.
    Take care,
    j

Those who know me have read my posts about living at Earth peoples Park back in '70 and '71.

This can be a beautiful dream come true or a royal pain in the ass.
EPP started out as 600 acres of free land for free people, to come and build and share and help and love each other, there was the most intense feeling of togetherness there and the life I led there with Larry, laid the ground work for how we live today.

However 21 years after it all started it ended, by the hand of people who came with greed in their hearts, it was logged illegally and someone got in an arguement with some one who happened to be growing a bit of herb and that was all the FEDS needed to seize the land...it is a state forrest now, they came and burned all the houses down.

So... my main advice to you would be to set up a bit of ground rules (I know this sounds like I have a stick up my butt) because you want to have everyone..no matter what their personnal trip may be...working and living for the common good for all.

There is a most excellent couple of mags out there that would help you tremendously....Old mother Earth mags, Bakwoods Home, Back home mag, countryside journal, organic gardening are the ones we read regularlly, I will post links as soon as I look them up.

How beautiful you are to want to share what you have, but please make sure for your own and others who are there sakes that you are ALL there for the common good....let me know if I can help you with anything I can,

There is a dude in Flagstaff, AZ who is a Vietnam vet and when he came home from Vietnam he wanted to get away from everyone so he bought some land in the forest and built a shack. Then a few years later he built himself a little bit bigger, nicer shack, then in a few years another....there are 5 now I think. Anyway he lives in the newest one and rents the others out very cheaply. My cousin's son rented the oldest and worst one, no running water, no electricity, nothing but a shack with some sort of heater. Anyway, you might start out with something like that to get a little $$ coming in. Dumpster dive construction materials, etc. to get started. I think one of the links teepi was talking about is www.countrysidemag.com I am an avid reader of that magazine too. There is a section in there...countryside contacts (or something similar to that) that you can put an ad in for like minded people.

I am extremely interested in your idea. Ilive in Ohio, 20 minutes from the Mich border.... I had a short time where I had the land in another state. but no one to help. However I was 1/3 owner with 2 half sisters who do not share my ideas. I'm not as experienced as I should be but I make up for it in ENTHUSIASM. I'm willing to work hard to share in the ideas you have. Contact me if you are interested in my help.

Back in the late 80's a local Newpaper went bankrupt and abandoned a lot of printing ant typesetting equipment. We managed to get permission to haul it off and set it up in our basement.

About the same time we were going to Rainbow gatherings and eventually started doing some typesetting and printing for Rainbow Family people using the old printing equipment from the newspaper.

This was also around the time that Earth Peoples Park was in trouble and there was this benefit to raise money for the defense of the park in Worchester MA.

"Vermin Supreme" showed up and we printed up some fliers for him and for the Earth Peoples Park benefit. I still have an original metal printing plate for the EPP benefit.

Laura Kross, if I remember right, also sent a kind of poster/flier with "visions" for Earth Peoples Park that she was hoping we could reprint as there were no more copies left.

The copy I received was apparently a copy of a copy or something and parts of it were barely readable. To be reprinted it would have to be re-typeset as in order to re-print it it would have to be photographed, etched on a metal printing plate, etc. with some further degridation at each step.

Unfortunately my typesetter's hard drive, which used 8 inch floppies that were no longer available anywhere, quit working and there was no way to fix it.

I had a computer guy come out and look at it for $100/hour but he couldn't do anything. Those hard drives were no longer available. He did know someone with the same type of old typesetter that was looking to get rid of it as they were paying storage on it. These were originally $35,000 dollar machines. Now we had two of them thanks to some help from EPP Inc.

I replaced the hard drive with one from this other old typesetter but had no money to buy supplies, film, printing plates, paper etc. for the project.

I called Laura and others to see if there was a more legible copy but I was told that they had sent the last copy they had. I made several photocopies while working on it.

Not long afterwards we had to move and the printing set up in the basement had to be moved, but never got set up again.

The copies of the Earth Peoples Park "Visions" got filed away, stashed in a box. It further deteriorated over the years while the box was stored in an old farm hose in NY where part of the folder's in the box got turned into a mouse nest. A leaky roof did some additional damage.

I now live in Tennesee, but recently made a trip to that old farm house and retrieved my old boxes of files and stuff after almost 15 years in storage.

Going through all the boxes and boxes of old stuff I came across the file folder for the Earth Peoples Park material.

There was a big hole in the middle of the folder. But, seemingly, miraculously, because some photocopies I made were in the file upside down in relation to other copies, the hole was in the top of one copy and in the bottom of the other, so that the entire text was preserved.

Some portions of other stuff, mostly about donating to EPP on the back were unrecoverable.

So, anyway, I've been re-"typesetting" this barely readable material in HTML format. While doing that I did some browsing on the net for "Earth Peoples Park" which turned up this forum and Teepi's post about EPP.

When I finish re-typing the "Visions" about Earth Peoples Park and get it uploaded I'll post a link. There are some portions that are so faded it would be hard to swear it is all 100% correct. But I am very close to 100% certain after comparing, reading and re-reading the various copies that the text is reconstructed accurately. If anyone remembers this or still has a copy in better condition I welcome any corrections.

    Tom

Sounds like a paradise waiting to happen. I live in Sedona, AZ. in an RV Park that is a community of like minded people with a wide variety of talents. The Rv Park is under the threat of closure due to the sell of the property to timeshare developers.

This will displace about 30 families and friends including myself, wife and two kids. If your property was more of a west coast location I would love to meet and get involved.

We have just got use to the west coast temps and would probably freeze to death if it dropped below 55 degrees ( I know we are big babies when it comes to cold weather)

Anyway during your travels please keep us in mind if you come across someone with similar intentions on the west side of the world.

    Good Luck

All I can say is an acre of land isn't enough to do jack-shit. You need more than that. Buy the adjacent parcel and then we'll talk.

I've finished re-typing the EPP visions paper. and also scanned the original deteriorated material for anyone who wants to see the original artwork and layout.

teepi, I don't think it is hijacking the thread to bring up various past or current experiments or examples of what others have tried to do.

"gandalfdzi's" post was for ideas that sound similar to what was tried at Earth Peoples Park: "create a beautiful place unlike anything this materialistic world has ever seen".

Anyway, say hello to Laura for me. We never met in person, that I know of, but did have a phone conversation or two about Earth Peoples Park.

After re-reading the "visions", I have to say that I don't believe Earth Peoples Park or the original vision is dead. Quite the opposite. It doesn't seem to me that the vision for Earth Peoples Park was limited or intended to be just one sectioned off peice of land owned by a corporation.

It's late here. I'm going to get some sleep and work on uploading the html page and the images in the morning.

Thank you Tom for doing this...you're right it is important...alot of young folk come here to get ideas about the way we were doing things back then.

And I made the hijack comment on myself as I have been accused of being a "hijacker of threads"...lol

EPP was one of the most important events in my life...it opened my spiritual path to my eyes and was where I met the man who, 32 years later, would become my husband.....we are now living our dream that was born then.

Please keep in touch and when I find my articles I can e-mail some to you if you like....

Laura is still in Vermont, about 20 miles from the park site, there was a dedication ceremony and a large boulder was carved with "Earth Peaples Park 1970-1991" carved in it, done the day when the deed was turned over and it was turned into a state forrest...it is there by the big swimming hole where we all used to bathe, It was a sad day and I do have video tape of it, the govenor even showed up, It is renamed "Blackturn State Forrest" now and you may go in and camp.......

This link leads to an HTML version and also four scans of what I had to work with. The HTML version is just 6.7 Kb, whereas the scans total 1384.8 Kb. As there are bandwidth limitations for this site (Tripod) it would be best not to view the scans too often without some good reason, but it's a "free" website (with pop-up adds) so I'm not complaining but if the bandwidth is exceeded for the day, I've learned, the page will be unavailable to anyone else for the rest of that day. Not really a bad deal considering back in 1989-1990 It was going to take a printing facility with about $100,000 dollars of equipment to typeset, photograph, print, etc. along with the cost of paper, ink, postage and what not to duplicate and distribute the same material.

    http://members.tripod.com/prc_projects/EPP/home.html

I really don't know who wrote this stuff, so I have no idea about any copyright claims or issues. If anyone discovers that there is some sort of problem with posting this information let me know. Anyway, it is primarily for historical and educational purposes (fair use). My assumption is, anyway that this material was intended for free distribution.
