Has anyone seen...

Modest Mouse in concert? I was going to buy tickets to one of their shows, but I once saw them on "Austin City Limits" and they didn't sound too good on that, so I was wondering if that was just a bad day or something or if they just suck in concert.

 

I never seen em, I was gonna go see them once before float on hit, at a smaller place in Hollywood but decided against it. Was them , Death Cab For Cutie, and Built to Spill, prolly shoulda gone......

 

I saw them on SNL once and they were horrid. Something tells me Modest Mouse is best off in the studio, digitally altering their music.

 

I saw them in Orange County, Ca at some festival around 2000 or 2001, they actually sounded really good and i wasn't a big fan of theirs.

Afterwards I hung around while my friend interviewed Isaac Brock, who was drunk and ripping on some pseudo hippy in a subtle way.

I guess maybe they aren't as good now.

 

Hmmmm... I am undecided... I absolutely love their music, but it would suck to pay money to be disappointed.

Oh well, I just saw Beck and it was the best thing in the world, so maybe I'll have to be happy with that, or go and see Ween instead of Modest Mouse. Sigh, so many choices.

Do you mean that they suck as a band, or that they suck live? Because if you mean they suck as a band, then I have already established that I love their music so that doesn't really apply to me. Just wondering.

I heard a live song of theirs on the radio at one time in the last year or two and it was terrible. The rest of their stuff isn't for me at all, but musically it just didn't sound like they were at all together

 

Lame, maybe I'll go see Ween after all.

 

I don't like them either, but I'd pick them over modest mouse any day

I've enjoyed seeing ween every time...suprisingly the best one I saw was a free show they did in a record store...when they played for about an hour and a half.
I wouldn't let trhe nu metal fans prevent you from going to see modest mouse though...anyone who actually like the "Nu-Metal" doesn't have a relevant opinion

Yeah, I just wish I could get that Austin City Limits memory out of my head... seriously it was the worst thing I've ever heard, it didn't sound remotely like their records and they were barely coherent and I seriously wonder if they were even alive at the time.

 

i know what you mean, but sometimes bands sound like garbage on Austin City Limits, and TV in general....they do seem to have a tendency to play too drunk I've noticed.

I'm not familiar with their newer stuff, and haven't liked their radio songs that I've heard the last few years. Ween would be a safer bet, but they both might be good

 

Yeah, I just bought the Ween tickets and the Modest Mouse show isn't until August, so I'll just have to see how much money is left. MM would be cool also because it is in Troutdale by Portland, OR and Portland is my favorite city so that would be a good excuse to go there.

 

oh cool, I have several friends in Portland, are you still in California now?

 

Yeah, but no one ever comes here to do shows. People go to San Francisco, but that isn't really that much closer than Portland and driving there freaks me out.

Though the Violent Femmes were in Arcata a few months ago and they were awesome. That is about it though.

 

Driving is SF is a pain in the ass, I've had to do that before. Maybe someday I'll make it out there again...its been a while now.

We get some shows, but have to drive occasionally as well
