    Hi folks,

I just bought myself a hohner marine band and since its my first one, I had a few questions. When I draw in on the 2, its makes a really flat sound. I dont know if im holding it wrong or something, but it just doesnt sound like any other one. Could there be something wrong? Or do I just have to keep playing to get it to sound better?

Also, the wood surface is already bubbling up and peeling a little. Is this routine?

    Thanks for all your help

I sort of have that same problem and I've been playing mine for a pretty long while. Maybe we need to get nicer ones for the 2 to not sound bad? I'm not really sure.

I have a couple harps with bad tones. To get past it and to keep from having to ditch it altogether, I just draw with a little extra vibrato and I move my lip positions ever so slightly to bend the pitch. You can bend pitches like mad on a harp so if you have flat tones like you do on the 2, bend it up a little bit until it vibrates to the right pitch.

I've been too timid to try this myself, but I've been told that you can soak your harp in water for a short amount of time and it will sometimes aid a poor tone, and will keep the wood from drying out and peeling. I never tried it because I was worried about rusting.
