I used to torture grasshoppers, ants, flies...lots of different insects. But that was it. I loved locking flies in the freezer, or swatting them out of the air in mid-flight (admittedly, I still love doing those things...lol), and we'd catch grasshoppers and drown them or put them in a Cool Whip container and leave them in the hot sun to bake to death. As far as ants went, we loved trapping them and pinching off their stingers, setting them on fire with magnifying glasses, etc. Back then, I really didn't consider insects as anything but pests. Now I get kind of sad if I accidentally kill a bug. I try my best to rescue them and set them free outside if they're inside, lol. It sounds a little too hippy and stuff to say I feel like they have feelings, too, but I can't help but feel like I killed someone on their way home to their family and that's depressing, lol. Silly, huh?
well, i have killed insects without guilt, killed mice in my house. shot an elk. tried to shoot a deer.
When I was a kid my friends and I used to pour gasoline on crayfish we caught at the lake and then would set them on fire. Hey, It was something to do :sunglasse Hotwater
i've killed chickens before to eat and one, well it was deformed at my female friend didn't want to kill it so me and a few friends did. i use to flat out kill every single fly i saw arouind my house.
We have soooo many crawfish out at the river a few miles outside of town. But my boyfriend and I don't set them on fire. When we went out there last year, we used to have to fend them off with pebbles so we could sit in the pool of water they inhabitated without being pinched, lol.
Kinky Ramona, When you're a kid setting them on fire and watching them turn red is the coolest thing in the world. fortunately I've outgrown that Hotwater
I've done a lot of fishing, but I'm good to my fish. Worms on the other hand... Squishing tent caterpillars was fun back in the day. I’ve had a slingshot and a pellet rifle for years yet I have never managed to kill anything. Disturbed some birds nests, pushed over a dead tree and an owl fell out once, but it just flew away. I have never had a stomach for torture, though. Good thing animals have such small brains or else they would revolt.
Ironcore, I believe in doing unto others as they would do unto you, and small animals and insects in particular, have cause the suffering of hundreds of millions of people over the years through the spread of diseases. Malaria, encephalitis, west nile virus, ebola, marburg, dengue fever, yellow fever, plague, etc...the list is endless and so are the victims, so if we can get just a bit of revenge - I'm all for it. As a kid I would kill bees, because all the other kids were so afraid of bees and I wanted them to stop acting like little bitches, so I'd kill the bees and I'd be the heroine or something. I also killed ants because they were just so easy to kill. And cockroaches, because I am terrified of them. Nowadays I don't see them anymore, but the last time I saw a cockroach, I let it have the room it was in and I went upstairs, locked myself in my room and didn't sleep that night. I also convinced my brother to drown his lizard to see if it could swim. I figured it would drown, though I didn't know.
Haha, that's actually a very thoughtful way of putting it, Hotwater. I've never considered it like that.
though i am fond of earthworms. they never hurt anyone and are handy in the garden. snails, too, though they tend to find their way under my bare feet too often. i'm am where they go to die, i guess. i'm like their goddess, requiring a sacrifice.
well i'm an idiot and put i've never purposely killed or tortured anything, but i have killed bugs. when i was around the age of 5 i know i enjoyed stepping on bugs and i still kill nats and waterbugs that get in the house. i've also caught a few fish when i was about 10 and younger, so yeah.. sorry i screwed up your poll. i do remember some friends of mine and i threw rocks a dead rabbit on the side of the road until the guts spilled out... that was gross, i don't know why we did it. oh and centipedes when i was living in hawaii... those things are creepy. and we used to set traps for mice in california, but they were the type that were enclosed and usually jsut caught the tail, so we'd let them loose way behind our house, and they probably always came back... lol. so yes, i've done a lot of killing and torturing in my day.
Kinky Ramona, Thanks And to think I was told years ago that a 6th Grade education just wouldn't cut it :H Hotwater
I used to kill bugs that had gotten into my house but now if possible I try really hard to get them outside alive before I'll kill it.
