Has anyone ever seen this show? It annoys the shit out of me. The only time I watch it is when I am around my dad, because he watches it. Every time I watch it, I just get annoyed by how fake and scripted it seems. I don't like the participants of the show, or the sleezy, greaseball store owner and his ugly, obnoxious kids. I am boggled by how so many people, including my own father, think the show is real. Also, to me the show seems to be pretty racist in how they use and exploit black people acting foolish, which in turn casts a bad image on all black people and only further promulgates racist stereotypes, many of which are unfortunately real. Still, I don't believe for a minute that most of the people on this show would be acting the way they do if cameras weren't right there, but it's obvious that most of it is all just an act to garner ratings, and the people on the show are actually told to act out and probably paid to do so. Not surprising to me at all, but I think the success of these shows hinges on the fact that people think what they're seeing is real and not scripted. Because if people thought it was scripted, I can't see how the show would be as popular as it is.
The TV business is uglier than most things. It is normally perceived as some kind of cruel and shallow money trench through the heart of the journalism industry, a long plastic hallway where thieves and pimps run free and good men die like dogs, for no good reason. -Hunter Thompson
I like watching Pawn Stars to see the cool stuff/hear the history behind things. The same reason I love Antiques Road Show. :leaving:

Matt, you and your parents sound like indoor people and media-oriented. At least that's what it seems from the posts. Maybe it would be a beneficial thing to spend some time outdoors and away from the media/TV/internet.
Like you said, he sounds like an indoor person. Indoor people do not have any business outdoors, so your advice is horrible.
He used to be an overweight kind of person, but he made some lifestyle changes that improved himself. There's this thing called change.
Getting away from the media for a while has a way of cleansing the mind, similar to how fasting can purge the body of toxins.
Some people are too attached to the media to ever be able to get away from them. For some, it is a drug.
The same could be said for food and obesity, yet there are people who implement a lifestyle change for themselves.
