I couldn't call her names or hate her, as she was dearly loved by someone I liked and respected. A lot of people share your opinion, I know, but I just can't.
I turn 69 in two weeks, so I'll get to say 69 a lot over the next year without anyone thinking I'm immature for it. For something else maybe, but not for that. And happy birthday Angelmama, hope you enjoy your 70s. And happy 90th Yoko. Got nothing against you but I'm not a fan.
a few years ago there was a special celebration which featured the music of the Beatles. Yoko Ono was there, and Ringo Starr was there, too. And Ringo approached her at one point, and they danced together to whatever song was playing... I've forgotten the reason for that show, or what song was playing but I remember how happy I was to see those two enjoying themselves. We can't know what it's like to be them or her- or how it was really like when she came on the scene. But John Lennon loved her and she lost him in the most cruel way. and a happy birthday to the rest of you who are not all that much older than me... life is a gift.
I think if Yoko had kept her mouth shut (esp. when John was being recorded), she would have more respect today. Her only worthy contribution to his music was as a muse, not as a singer! And yes, many people, myself included think she was a major reason the Beatles broke up, but not the only one. Lastly many resent the way she has controlled the Beatles legacy, always being the deciding factor in how their music was being used.
I love Yoko Ono. From the insane proto punk caterwauling to the more mainstream sounding stuff like "What a Bastard the World Is." I really understand why John Lennon loved her so much, and I don't think anyone who hates her really understands John Lennon. My God, he was just as punk as her!
