I want to make these. I would love to buy them, but I tend to like the $50 sets... which are just not in my budget. Since I already have beading "stuff" here it wouldn't cost much for me to start, but I need to find an inexpensive place to find plain wooden sticks - preferably both straight and spiral.

Has anyone seen these? I can find a few sellers on ebay, but I want to make TONS of them... as in possibly start selling them later this summer.

I third the chopsticks idea. My boyfriend and I always request chopsticks everytime we eat Chinese, and sometimes I use them, but most of the time I just keep them (eating should not be that tiring! Haha). I'm sure you could bulk order them, though I'm seeming to have trouble locating a site.

chopsticks are always easiest to use... and easy to decorate and UNBELIEVABLY cheap... otherwise look for wholesalers if you want plastic ones... but that can get pricy.

you could also get some narrow dowel rods, cut the lengths you want, and sharpen them in a pencil sharpener...my mom and i have made knitting needles this way before- i'm sure it wouldn't be too much of a stretch to make them into hairsticks instead...

A friend from another board pointed out the wooden ones at firemountain gems. I've shopped there for years & never thought to look there for them! I did think about chopsticks, but they tend to be made of soft wood and wouldn't last as long.

Now I'm just trying to find the spiral ones. The best price I've found so far is $22/pair which just isn't gonna be very affordable. I would love to carve my own, but putting a knife in my hands would be a disaster; I am a REAL klutz with sharp objects. (I just sliced my finger on a paper trimmer yesterday!!!)

Thank you so much for your help :)

In Chinatowns they sell the plain wood ones in bags of 100 for about $5.
