I think this forum is about dreads and you are talking about 'normal' hair.. so.. but since I don't have any dreads and do have long hair, I'll try and answer anyway,

First off.. the worst thing you can do to try preventing your hair from being oily is to wash it more often. Don't do that! Your hair will get used to it and will get oily more quickly. Just try not washing it for a week or so and then start washing it every couple of days (like every 4 days or sth). If it keeps being very fatty, go to a herbal/health store and get a shampoo based on Stinging Nettle ([size=-1]Urtica dioica).. that's supposed to be really good as well. There are lots of herbal/natural stuff you can try.. but get yourself informed at a store about that or do a thorough surge on the internet before you put any stuff on your head/hair.

About thicker hair.. hm.. if you are born with very thin hair I don't think you will ever grow a thick bush on your head.. but you can take vitamines that help building up your hair and nails, to get your whole system going. Again: go to a local health/herbal store and ask for advice.. they will have a lot of stuff probably.

    Good luck!

you want your hair to get thicker before you make dreads and you are gonna start dreading today? Your post is kinda confusing.. or maybe I'm just really getting too tired *yawn*..

I think it's anatomically impossible to start growing hair which is thicker. If you're wanting fatter dreads then you should make the sections bigger. For 1 inch squared sections you're looking at dreads with a diameter of 1/2 inch. You should adjust accordingly to how fat you want them. Also please note that this is just a rough guide really and is dependent on the individual.
