So my original gynecologist that I've had for a long ass time moved her practice a few months ago and two new doctors have taken her place, so when I went to make my annual appointment there, I figured, no problem, right? Wrong. I jump through all these hoops with a stupid receptionist who can't hear a damn thing and I have to repeat everything three times and when she finally finds me an appointment, I mention that I'm going to need a refill on my b.c. pills... She says, "Well, we don't give out birth control pills unless it's for medical reasons." I reply, "Since when?" Because my old gyno gave me mine, of course. "Well, that's been the belief system of all three doctors throughout their practice." I quickly say, "well, I would not like to make an appointment then." And I hang up. I'm shocked. I didn't know b.c. was so frowned upon. I guess we should all just go out and start fucking eachother without protection and have a billion babies...I should have asked the receptionist if they frown upon condoms too. I'm shocked and pissed.
Your gyno won't give you a script for birthcontrol? That's insane? What about your GP? That's who used to write mine.
Wow! I can't believe that! That's just insane! I mean, I don't take BCP, but if I did and my doctor's office told me that they wouldn't give me any, you better believe I'd be finding a new practitioner! That really is some BS there!
why don't you go to your old gyno at her new practice? Did you not hear about the whole pharmacists-not-giving-out-birth-control controversy a few months back? Birth control and religious beliefs have been at odds for generations, and as of late some doctors and pharmacists have been letting their religious beliefs cloud their job duties. It was plastered all over the news just a few months ago.
She moved her practice out of state...so that's out of the question...unless I want to drive 2500 miles for my appointment. I loved her, but not that much. I have heard about that, but I guess I got that "it won't happen to me" syndrome... I don't understand why, after all of the years of the women's rights movement we are still discussing this. You're right ihmurria, people do let their religious beliefs cloud their job duties...and that's not right.
ooph, k, yeah that's a little wee bit far to go for a doctor, however wonderful. time to hunt around and find a new doc. I had to find a new general health doctor guy, since I really didn't like mine. Tried, hmm, two, and found one I liked in the second one, hurrah! Maybe if you went to one close to a post-secondary place? Somehow they tend to be more liberal-minded, around here at least.
Yeah, I found a doctor in Ann Arbor, which is a much more liberal city than the city the old office was in... I just hope she is nice like my last doctor was.
I would tell them that yes, I have a medical reason for getting BC. I want to prevent giving birth. That is a medical procedure, is it not? Seriously, that stinks. Aparently unwanted babies/abortions are more desirable than using bc...
I have heard more and more stories of women being refused the pill and pharmacists refusing to fill the prescription. I think it's a bunch or horse_%$# for someone to impose their values on you. Technically under the patient's bill of rights they violated #5. The right to respect and non-descriminatory care. In some states, if doctor or pharmacist refuses to fill a presciption they have to refer you to a provider who will grant your request. I would consider a nurse-midwife. They can write presciptions. But if you have another gyno lined up, see how that goes. Once you get a prescription you can usually get refills through the mail and at a discount at that. So you won't have to put up with any more drama. I would report those docs who denied you to the med examiner board where you live and file a complaint. It's your body, and they are your rights.
Do you guys think I could/should request to be taken off of their database and be sent ALL of my records? Now, I just don't feel comfortable with them even having my records.
Def get your records--you paid for all of it.You know ,these conservatives damn sure want us born, but they don't give a shit about us after.I can't believe what's become of this country.Seemingly, they want their noses in our business , right down to the smallest details. They insinuate their way into our lives in many ways, but not issuing bc to a women that requests them is downright ridiculous.I guess they figure not issuing them to you will keep you from having sex ----"That'll fix ya'sinner!"You'll find someone who's willing to uphold the hippocratic oath,I'm sure.
You could refill it online. Sorry you had to deal with that. I'm not surprised..It's the religious bs.. Plus, I'm really tired of running into some younger folks..Some older, the Rush Limbaugh fan types.. saying that the feminist movement failed. Well, I guess we're now getting a taste of what it's like to feel some of the civil rights those activists fought so hard for us to have being slowly torn away from us.
Ack. I'm actually afraid to get a gynecologist. My old pediatrician was the only doctor I trusted to refer me to other doctors and now I'm going to my parents' doctor (which I hate, I feel like they have the ability to meddle in my business now) and I hate it. She's nice, but I really wish my pediatrician hadn't just specialized in pediatrics. I'm way more comfortable with her.
