I think both are equally good actually. I was really into grunge a couple of years ago, not as much now tho....soundgarden and nirvana are amazing....but at the moment im listening to more and more symphonic metal. peace and love xxxxx
yeah i'm getting more into symphonic metal you know stuff like nightwish and within temptation as for grunge i'm still quite a big fan. i listen to mainly stone temple pilots but i'm also big on nirvana and soundgarden. lot of the bands on sub pop 200 rock as well.
i love both nightwish and within temptation!!!! They are utterly amazing! I also love flowing tears peace and love xxxxxxx
not heard them. i've only recently started listening to within temptation through a dutch friend of a dutch friend. i like them a lot because they are the same genre as nightwish but still different. it's like nightwish are more nordic whereas WT are more celtic so it brings variety within symphonic/gothic/whatever metal
I don't think I've heard much symphonic metal. It doesnt sound like a combo I would like with my metal though. Anyways, I am definatly more into grunge than anything else.....at least for the last couple months anyways. Alice in Chains, Nirvana, and all the others...... maybe this symphonic metal is something I should look into?
symphonic metal is like goth metal but not like cradle of filth. it's not so aggressive. it's like classical instruments and metal together but the classical element is much stronger than in other rock/metal genres.
I love symphonic metal bands like Dimmu Borgir, Old Man's Child, Borknagar, Emperor, Cradle of Filth, Hecate Enthroned, Rotting Christ, Graveworm... Though overall I only prefer synths if they really add to the music and aren't too obnoxious. I don't know a lot of grunge. In fact, the only grunge song I know is Nirvana's Smells like teen spirit, en everybody knows that one. So you could conclude that I prefer ( symphonic ) metal.
whoa dude you don't know what you're missing!! may i strongly suggest stone temple pilots!! one of the best bands i have ever heard
Symphonic Metal. Although grunge can give a nice spin to metal, IE: Neurosis. But still, Symphonic Metal.
Rotting Christ huh? Sounds like a band that I might enjoy. What is with this Desert Rock? Would that include Kyuss, and the desert sessions they did? Cuz they are badass.
I think peccatum are kinda symphonic metal too actually - Dargaard definitely are. There are actually more symphonic metal bands than a lot of people realise ie,Dargaard and Closterkeller... I actually found dargaard completely by accident and i like them alot now. peace and love xxxxxxx
They are a Greek band that moved from rather raw, mostly midtempo black metal in the early nineties to a more smooth and gothic influenced sound and are currently getting their sharp edge back a little.
I don't know those three bands. Is Peccatum not a side project of one of the guys from Emperor ( R.I.P. )? Something like Ihsahn with his girlfriend or something? Want to add Ancient Rites and Obsidian Gate to the list of good symphonic black metal bands.
Grunge. When it comes to the different styles of heavy rock under the "stonerrock"-umberella -I actually find desert rock the most dull part. I'm more into the doom and/or spacerock stuff. (Just read my sig.)
ur almost right abt peccatum,man....ihrel is his wife tho, not his girlfriend. Yeah, peccatum is Ihsahn's side project with her. The deal was that when he was on tour with emperor, he missed ihriel so much that he got peccatum to support emperor on tour so that he could be with her. Its all very sweet. As for dargaard - they are amazing!!!!! Very very dark and gothic without being pretentious, and Elizabeth Toriser is a beautiful singer. Its kind of moody and wicca, with moments of black metal in it - its really cool. They're Austrian by the way. peace and love xxxxx
