    I think it's what happened when someone took the heaviness of metal, with a more simplistic punk sensibility.

    False

    nirvana killed fun in rock music in general. And metal was fun and it had its following in America but then again Americans are spoon feed to what music to like.

    FCK kurt wish he killed himself earlier.

    early Grunge had a noticeable Metal influence, but at the end of the day it's just influences and the odd Metal riff here or there does not constitute it as Metal especially when they share little to no other similarities in Music/ideals/lyrics etc.

    The 3 biggest grunge bands that I can think of all sound like they were influenced by different genres.

    Nirvana=punk
    Alice in Chains=Metal
    Pearl Jam=Rock

    So no I don't really see it as a sub genre of metal.

    No way in hell he did. Black Francis changed rock where Kurt Cobain is credited. The Pixies created the 'quiet/heavy' dynamic used so frequently in metal music these days, so you could say that influenced a lot of metal bands there after- even if the genres were different.

    Kurt Cobain admitted to songs like 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' were simply him trying to rip of The Pixies.

    I hate Grunge for the most part anyways, though Alice In Chains are superb.

    Perhaps it's a subgenre of punk, rock and metal? Or is that not allowed :D

    QOTSA are boring, I seen and been too better concerts WAY better then them.
    oh did the Americans feelings get hurt? its only the truth...like this one marine I once said " while in the 90s America ate up grunge and left metal behind. The Japs still loved to rock and listen to heavy metal. Thats why I kept on buying imported CDs from Jap since they kept the music alive!" even till this day Metal lives on not as a trend or anything but for its music. Also Metal isnt just big Japan but almost everywhere Central America, South America, Europe and Asia.

    I want to see QOTSA throw a Open Air festival anywhere outside of North America. See how awesome they are......

    Yeah just like you being a Marine fight over seas at third world countries...:rolleyes:

    wow not a single person agreed with me yet.
    I see a lot of valid points opposing my position, however I will stick with my view that grunge is metal on heroin. except pearl jam which is the beach boys on heroin.
