Hey. I have got some skunk seeds that I would like to grow. I have got a few questions. Especially about lamps, but I have also got other questions... Like...: Can you tell me how to regocnize males from females on an early stage? About lamps: -Have you got some good advice on which lamps to buy? -Is it really necessary to have the lamps switched on 24/7? I don't like to have lamps switched on when I'm not at home... My advice is to read. I'm new too, so I'll just inform you on some things I've learned. There's a sticky on ditermining M/F plants. Basically, put them into flower, and look at sex organs after a few weeks. Chop the boys. Lamps: Compact flouros for small grows, HPS lights andd MH for anything bigger. I got mine of craigslist for cheap and just replaced the bulb. Also, check ebay. They have to be on most of the day during vveg, and then switch to 12/12
There is NO definate way to determine Male from Female plants at the seed stage. I have personally found that during the first 3 weeks to 1 month. It works best to give your plant 18 hours of light. After that, cut to 12 hours. Hope this helps somewhat :]

OK, here I am again. Ahimsa - I followed your advice to read. I will recommand others to read too. After digging into the literature / info on web , I have realized that growing skunk is a quite complicated matter! Just as Ahimsa recommand, HPS or MH is recommanded in all plausible sources I have investigated. But by using these lamps there is also a huge risk of causing fire, since high watts obviously cause a lot of heat. Therefore it's crucial to place your skunk in a ventilated place, and it's recommendable to buy fans to place near the lamps. Since I'm often somewhere else than in my appartment, I simply don't dare to run the risk having such lamps switched on most of the day. Instead I must be satisfied with having a smaller harvest by applying fluorescent tubes instead of HPS or MH lamps. I have read that application of fluorescent tubes can get you an OK harvest (but ofcourse less than by having lamps with higher watts), if they're used proper: In the vegetative phase, use red/yellow fluorescent tubes at 2700 Kelvin. At blooming phase replace them with blue/white tubes at 5000-7000 Kelvin. Place the tubes vertical so it's parallel to the growing direction of the plant, and place it close at 1-2 inches distance. Have plenty of tubes and make sure the light don't 'escape' - surround your weeds by vertical placed fluorescent tubes, and make light reflective frames to fasten around the armature (made of tin, sheet metal, tinfoil or whatever). Just make sure as much light as possible is reflected into the plant. I will see if that will work out, and ofcourse I will let you know about if the result is a success or not.
