I have a question. I'm going to be growing Cannabis on my balcony from seeds I got from this really good weed (A few puffs and the stoners can't walk, with no headache) and was wondering if I need any males. Males are brown right? So if something comes up as a male, is it good to just let it grow, or does it need to be there to fertelize the females so that I get more seeds? How does that work? This is my first attempt and growing anything. Oh, and my Balcony faces nothing but trees, and is way up there, so it is nice and private.
there is no way of telling what sex the plant is until it grows. The ph level of the soil is the most determining factor. If the soil is like 7.0 and above you should have a good chance of growing female plants. You want females because they produce "flowers" which are the buds. Use plenty of nitrogen in the soil when it first starts growing. once you start induceing flowering increase phospherous dosing and also calcium for the soils ph level
Nothing personal- but your question labels you too naive to make a start on. Male and female cannabis plants- like humans - are the same with different sexual attributes. You better read a book. Then ask questions which will help you understand.
Or you can answer his questions and be supportive instead of putting him down. You'll learn a lot more than trying and failing. At least that's how I work.
" Males are brown right? " Yea-brown chlorophyll! Answering none-sensical questions is a waste of everybodies time.
Helping someone understand is wasted? If they're asking non-sensical questions, then they need guidance. Saying, "read a book" as a response isn't guidence, it is deflection. I'm sure you, with all your expert knowledge, can answer any question someone asks in a couple sentences in a very basic way. It is kind of like when you asked your parents the meaning of a word and instead of telling you, they told you to look it up (because they didn't know).
hey man, dont be an ass because you know more than everybody else (sure). anyways i cant tell you how to identify the males at an early age but i can tell you if you find out, dig them up and take them somewhere else. i never let the males stay around my ladies because i like non-pollinated buds. i dont know about the maricle grow thing, but i use tomato fertilizer and it works very nicely. good luck with the plants and happy growing
one needs a basic understanding of plants to be a successful grower- there are no short cuts. Anyone who can grow about anything can grow weed. but cannabis growing with zero knowledge of plant life is a big bite; especially for one who refuses to read up on the subject.
Hey Geck...If these young 'uns wont listen to your voice of experience in regards to growing weed, imagine trying to teach them history or math. To you young fellows, I say, "Pay attention, get the chip off your shoulder....the man is trying to teach you something!!"
white widow is for a experienced grower try starting off with nothern lights its a more forgiving strian.... you should do ALOT of reading before you start to grow if you dont want to waste your time. theres lots of information on the web i mean alot try http://overgrow.com/ its a great site
A little basic knowledge of growing and horticulture would be of great benefit. Before you stick valuable seeds in a pot on the balcony, read up first, the seeds will hold until you get to speed. There are many variables to consider, time of year, light, dark, flower removal, male vs. female, pruning..... You get the picture, and to see the picture you need some knowledge. I grow in my back yard, in a west facing alcove between a garage wall and a lava rock wall 10ft high. Morning intense light, noon to around 3 direct sun and then evening waning light and good darkness. Presently, I am growing 6 white widow plants culled from 20 from which 15 sprouted. The remainder were destroyed purposely due to space limitations.( my wahine over planted against my judgement). This is my 12th crop in as many years in the same spot, always grown in 5gal. pots, always grown in potting soil, vermiculite, and I use miricle grow, you don't want the water to look like airplane toilet water, just a light blue tint, that is enough. I am not a rocket scientist when it comes to growing this stuff, and granted I live in Hawaii where the weather is pretty stable all year, but some knowledge will be very helpful before hand.
When I first started I was like that too. I mean I did get a book on growing and did my research like you said, but I would never put anyone down for not knowing. He just wondered about fertilization which I thgink is logical enough if you know anything about other kinds of plants(notbud). Just be happy!!!
the females are the ones with all the buds. If you want to produce more seeds make sure you have a male and a female to pollinate the female, or you could make more plants from cuttings.
