Assume someone I know had a jar full of solvent and extremely pure DMT... I would like to see one big clear super impressive looking crystal!

What are some methods for improving the structure of the crystal? What importance is temp during the time of crystal formation?

I know it all ends up as smoke in the end but I want to blow some minds, and that's hard to do with the heads I am usually smoking DMT with...

Got this from a DMT extraction TEK posted on the Shroomery.

From the sounds of it, the last step is the only one you need. Have fun with that you lucky bastard!

I like the shroomery I've read this tek and i wonder- is using a 10%ammonia such a great idea? it contains water, and that dissolves DMT. what about AA? and ALSO since Hexane evaps way faster than naptha and at lower temps wouldn't it be better suited for forming LARGER crystals? what about reducing temp below freezing signigantly with a dry ice/acetone bath, would the radical temp decrease speed crystalization? and purity of commercial naptha is at best 99% so it's going to leave oils that prevent complete crystalization anyway right?

tell me if my thinking is off base before I end up doing something very inefficient in my experimenting.

DMT freebase is insoluble in water, but using ammonia to recrystallize sounds kinda sketchy, as it would likely dissolve some of the product.
you actually end up with a resinous product, rather than big crystals. also, save the hexane for recrystallization. naptha is fine for extraction.
you could do a cold solvent recrystallization ("crashing out") , then store the product in the fridge or freezer. that's pretty much the only way it'll stay crystalline.

keep in mind: dmt freebase melts at around 34 - 37C, so at room temp, it's waxy. getting crystalline product is rare, unless you dry the product over magnesium sulfate (or some similar dry agent), and do several recrystallizations

great info! I think i'll try doing the redundant rectystalizations in hexane and using less solvent each time, and selecting the largest crystal and picking it out and using it as a seed crystal. Ill bet keepin the crystal forming vessel in dry ice will speed the formation and prevent evap. once it's all one big clear beautiful crystal i'll pick it and evap any remaining moisture. sound about right poly?

does a colder temperature actually speed crystal formation? i would think it slows it, but makes it more precise and therefore larger, prettier crystals.

temp = kinetic energy. so lower temp is less/slower movement.

exactly, thus with higher temp, it's resinous. colder temperature lowers entropy, inducing stablization within the crystal lattice.

in chemistry, cold crystalization is called "crashing out".

but like I said, don't expect dmt freebase to stay crystalline at room temperature, it most likely won't (because of its low melting point)

The denser structure of a solid crystal would probably resist the heat BETTER than say, a baggie full of powder. That said, there's really no excuse for not storing it in the freezer.

from what i gather on the subject, after you recrystalize you have 2 options:

slow evap by fan = large crystals
quick freeze precip = small crystals
