Lately I've just started drinking hot green tea in the morning. Just the tea, I don't put sweeteners or anything else in it. I drink it by itself, no food. I also drank some black tea, but only one cup of that. Ever since I started drinking these hot teas in the mornings, my face has been breaking out in acne, and it's pretty bad. It hasn't been this broken out in years I don't think. I haven't stopped drinking the green tea and it seems to be getting worse, so I think there's a connection. What I am wondering is, could I be allergic to the green tea, or is it causing me to detox? Which is more likely? I know if I am allergic, I'll have to stop drinking it because I won't stop breaking out. But if it's detox, my skin will clear up, right? Which could it be? Or could it be anything else??? Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. I love green tea and I don't want to stop drinking it, but my face is starting to make me very unhappy.
Maybe you're just pregnant... That's what happened to me.... I thought "I must be allergic to something! I never break out!" haha.... guess what? Have you been doing anything else differently? I think your skin can dry out, and then it tries to make up for it and goes overboard and you can get blemishes. I don't know. I ain't no skin doctor.
Haha! I'm not pregnant. Hubby's been snipped. And because I WANT to be pregnant, that just makes it more so that I'm not. You know how that goes. I haven't really been doing anything different lately, just drinking the green tea. I did some research on the internet but I can't find anything that says green tea causes breakouts. In fact, I keep seeing stuff about how applying green tea to the skin HELPS break outs, but nothing about the effect of DRINKING it on acne. However I did find out that caffeine makes some people break out. Green tea has caffeine in it. That's the only connection I can find, but that doesn't make sense because I eat chocolate and drink soda's with caffeine in them, probably more so than the tea, and they don't make me break out like THIS. That's why all I can think of is either allergy or detox. I'm praying it's detox, but allergy makes more sense.
Hey, Bree. I'm more inclined to go with the detox route. Green tea has antioxidants in it. Perhaps it's flushing toxins out through your poor skin. I never heard of acne being the result of an allergic reaction, though it might be. I'm no skin doctor, either!
